@Akshat_World Google was not original; Archie was. Before Facebook, there were Orkut, MySpace, etc. Before Spotify, there was Pandora. Before Windows, there were DOS and Unix. Being first doesn’t mean much in the long run. Profitability and vision matter most.

- Ola is a copy of Uber - Zomato is a copy of Yelp - PayTM is a copy of AliPay (China) Make in India is a failed campaign. And, is now practically "Assemble" in India. There is nothing wrong in copying good businesses & contextualizing it to the Indian market. Even China does that. But, making unnecessary noise; too much hype & marketing -- creates a wrong impression. And, makes people live in a la-la land.

If your salary goes up by 5%, but prices go up by 10%. Are you losing money or gaining money? Something similar happens with your investments. If the instrument in which you have invested has no chance of beating inflation, it can't be called an 'investment'. So here is the reality of PPF/EPF. [1] The PPF/EPF rates have been declining for the last several years. For example: 2016-2017: EPF 8.65 2022-2023: EPF is 8.15 For context: this was close to 9.5% in 2001. [2] The inflation in the economy has actually gone up. In fact, you need a more refined view on this:- There is a concept called as segmental inflation. This means that inflation works in segments. For example: if you are middle class, salaried people living in a metro, who does not take ration from the government--- inflation (or price increase works very differently for someone else). Most PPF/EPF folks will be hit badly due to this segmental inflation. Government data tells us that: inflation is like 5-6%, it is NOT (at least for your segment). It is much higher than that. And, if you put you put your capital in EPF/PPR you are not even beating inflation. Think about it this way: If the inflation for your segment is (say 10%), you are getting after tax 8-8.5% (yeah, I know these instruments are tax free; hence 8-8.5%). Guess what? you are DEFINITELY losing money. And, therefore this is NOT an investment. [3] Look at the trend: So in simple terms: PF/EPF/PPF the returns are going down. And, the inflation is going up. You are locking your money for a very long time in such instruments. Which is extremely unlikely to beat inflation in your segment. Now, it is your call: whether you consider such things as 'investments' or not. Very few folks have the courage to show you a contrarian picture. It is fine, if you disagree with me. But, the viewpoint I am highlighting has its validity. And, is applicable to many.
