@Aidan_Baron When solo responding my habit has been to check and read aloud, put the vial/box down turn it around, stand up or change my position and then check again. Definitely not fool-proof but a way of rejigging the brain cells.

Interested in how people are teaching first responders and particularly solo prehospital practitioners to check medications before administration...? Does anyone else turn the ampoule or tablet upside down and then read it aloud to force the brain to actually read the writing?

I don't know who needs to hear this but: STOP GIVING PROPHYLACTIC ANTIEMETICS WITH YOUR PAIN MANAGEMENT. Every medication has risks and side effects. Opioid administration should never be fast. Slow push. Slow flush. No nausea. /fin.

Maybe there is something I'm missing from another country, but does anyone else find it a bit odd there is a huge conference for a group of (I am sure lovely) people from another profession to decide what happens in our profession? Declared bias: I research medical dominance.

This is trauma porn It serves no purpose or public good. It does not benefit patients - it only serves to turn their tragedy into a spectacle to generate likes and follows for a public institution which has no need for these things. For shame.

@jfksafk Er, it isn’t “just” anything! A proper chip butty requires the addition of salt, vinegar & ketchup (Heinz, U.K. recipe). And they’re always called chips, not fries.

Just learned about chip buttys, which is an English food that is literally just French fries in between two slices of bread. This is just making me so irrationally angry

@Harrisonfw_ @RuthTownsendlaw @EburnM @Aidan_Baron Literally heard a story the other day about a experienced medic coaching a new paramedic through skills on a quote 'very' deceased patient...followed by the remark 'yeah but he is a such a nice guy'. No, no he is not.

Using a deceased patient to ‘practice’ skills (airway, IVs etc), it is clearly incredibly unethical. Does anybody have any examples of Australian case-law, coroner reports or legislation in regards to this topic? @RuthTownsendlaw @EburnM @Aidan_Baron #MedEthics

@martynichols9 @alan_batt @sjburbidge1 @LiamLangford I agree more training and support needs to be provided if continuing the current model of every paramedic being expected to mentor. But I will stand tall on the mountain that being a mentor should be a choice that is then supported and provided with training.

@sjburbidge1 @LiamLangford @alan_batt For decades training a paramedic (uni student or employed) has been seen as exception, not the rule, and something paramedics could get out of by telling managers they did not want to do it. Other professions (i.e. nursing) accept is as one of their professional roles.

If you see an Ambulance driving slow with or without blue lights it may be because the patient is sore, treatment is on-going while standing and unrestrained, avoiding pot holes to prevent the vehicle rocking and ensuring the journey is comfortable as possible. 👍🏼🚑
