@kscottz i mean if you're asking who wants to take a pill that makes them focus effortlessly and be more competitive at work / study, the answer is ~15-20% of people in serious grad school programs, and probably ~ the same in highly competitive tech roles

I don't have a problem with people using drugs, but one of the reasons I left my old job is because a sr. dev suggested a jr. dev take Modafinil and have an all night coding session.
I felt like that crossed a line.
Also aren't these the same people screaming about fentanyl?

@lovabler0gue Sure, they make you more alert and productive, but my understanding is there is at best nascent evidence that they improve cognitive function on complex tasks.
Like really, you're going to get high to be better at building dashboards at work? Who TF wants to live in that world?

We have very different ideas on how to do that, but I think that’s the sign of a healthy democracy: the ability to disagree civilly, debate thoughtfully, and grapple with the fact that what we’ve been doing isn’t working — even, and perhaps most importantly, when you come from the same political party.
I love New York, but I’m happy to be on a flight home right now — because California, we have a whole lot of work to do.

Why don’t neighborhoods like the Richmond and Sunset in San Francisco look more like the Upper West Side? But instead of 20–30 story apartments like Manhattan, it’s mostly 2-story houses. That’s tens of thousands of market-rate homes that could exist. Why didn’t it happen?
