Freddy Snyder, 29, is currently being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility as he awaits an April 29 arraignment in the killing of Caltech astrophysicist Carl Grillmair.
One of the most disturbing aspects of this case: in December 2025, Grillmair reportedly called police after spotting Snyder on his isolated Llano property with an AR-15–style rifle.
Snyder was arrested on a felony weapons charge...but released on his own recognizance, no bail package, nothing. With no prior criminal history, prosecutors dropped the case by February 5. The judge and prosecutor names were not immediately available. Even neighbors said Snyder was unhinged...why make all of this go away for him?
By February 16, Snyder returned and allegedly shot Grillmair, this time killing him.
The timeline has also gained attention alongside other incidents involving aerospace figures. This includes the December 2025 shooting death of MIT physicist Nuno Loureiro... which raises a chilling question: was Snyder planning to shoot and kill Grillmair in December 2025 as well? Before Grillmair spotted him and called the police?
