@Samwinton99 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter Exactly that and time and also change of the interpretation of donations to foundations after the event means you are incorrect I would say just as John Percy found out or had inside info so do people like Henry Winter. I rest my case you lord

So a club can sell its hotel to itself, sell its women’s team to itself, but West Brom are punished, they believe, for legitimate “in-kind” donations to the Albion Foundation, its charity partner that saves lives. Albion also believe the alleged PSR breach is “less than £2m”

West Bromwich Albion Football Club has released the below statement following publication of an EFL Club Financial Review Panel (CFRP) decision. 👇

@Samwinton99 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter I think your incorrect there accounts submitted by 31/12/25 to the EFL otherwise they would of been late as the EFL deadline is the 31/12/25 and further consequence’s as the PL wanted for Leicester

@kulaB70 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter Accounts were submitted 1st March. 6 weeks to review and charge, 3 weeks to prepare arguments, and then a 2 day hearing with a decision the next day. Don't see what else they could have done with the rules stating that the penalty had to be applied this season...

@kulaB70 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter I suspect, somewhere in that chain, there is a disagreement in interpretation between the club and the board. Without the written reasons it is premature to judge. I also stand by, if you are within £1.2m of the PSR cap, you are asking for trouble with the interpretation

@Samwinton99 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter Eg. Club, around £1.2m over and that same related to support given to the Foundation, it’s not unreasonable that it was included as a cost if that had previously been accepted. The real issue isn’t whether the cost exists, but whether the interpretation of that cost changed after

@kulaB70 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter Alot of people including the club and Henry Winter here are saying explicitly that is the reason for the breach. Club club are saying that the rules have been changed without there being any evidence in the public domain that this rule change materially impacted the decision

@Samwinton99 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter No one is saying it’s only for that reason but what was acceptable deduction is no longer they changed the rules after the event that wrong, they are acting as parents who are never wrong, the club feel they are on this occasion, their timing, leak was to rock the boat, simple

@kulaB70 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter My opinion here (not that I actually have one) genuinely has nothing to do with who I support. I just really don't like Journalists jumping to conclusions and I think the suggestion that they have been punished, purely due to charity donations is a willful misdirection

@Samwinton99 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter as I said they have been hammered this season for their actions so no face to save, CFRU they go by rules which the EFL changed so deducted. WBA are saying that using donations to the foundation is not a deductible cost, changing after the event

@kulaB70 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter Because why would WBA make the case against themselves. That would be intensely stupid. I am not suggesting they are lying. I am saying that they are not sharing the whole truth such as why the CFRU felt that any change in the rules was not relevant or not adequate mitigation

@Samwinton99 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter The chairman has been hammered for parts of season, from selling players, managers, player recruitment, tactics you name they been slated. so they don’t have to save face, maybe it’s the truth, your safe on one of the lowest budgets you just want us to know that

@kulaB70 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter WBA are quite obviously going to put out a line which is favourable to themselves as it preserves their options for appeal and prevents criticism from fans. Any reasonable non-biased person should recognise that and expect it not to be the whole truth

@Samwinton99 @lufcgilly @James18209464 @henrywinter has been by the club, they said rules have been changed, why wouldn’t you believe your club, you’re looking for 🎣. stick to not believing your own club, the journo are fully aware who is saying what, something the EFL have not offered. We will see you next season.

@lufcgilly @James18209464 @kulaB70 @henrywinter In taking the club at face value, to their credit, this was a masterclass in PR creating an us against the world mentality which got them their point. Id expect the fans to buy it. I find it disappointing that respected journalists rush to judgement without seeing written reasons

@Samwinton99 @James18209464 @henrywinter Which it does 9 times out of 10 but that’s why there is a appeals process, should be defended if we kept within the rules when we submitted our accounts Dec 25 EFL changed rules early 2026 but still charged us

What this week has enabled me to do is look back at just how absolutely fucking mental the Lai era really was. This one though, is the best example. Our then owner borrowed £2m from a lottery winning Villa fan with a company based in Brierley Hill, set up a company called

West Bromwich Albion Holdings (Hong Kong) Ltd, then changed its name soon after to Yunyi Guokai Ltd and never filed accounts. Not remotely dodgy. You couldn’t write it. Bilkul have made mistakes, but look at where we were ffs.

@BaggieFans It’s only an alleged breach because the figures are still being disputed whether there’s actually a breach hasn’t been decided yet. That’s why he’s been brought in

Article also mentions appointment of John Pelling to "troubleshoot finances on short term basis". He's worked at numerous troubled clubs like Wednesday and Bolton and is "vastly experienced in PSR" Perhaps breach was unavoidable, but we're in good hands with Pelling

My take away from this is that someone at the EFL has royally fucked up. How can this be left so late into the following season to be brought up and charged? How can we have advisors FROM the EFL working with us day to day to stay under and we still breach it? Situation stinks
John Percy@JPercyTelegraph

Excl: #wba have been charged with an alleged breach of P & S rules. Charge relates to 24/25 season and a points deduction (possibly minor) is very possible. The big question is: will it be applied this season? telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…

@DaleJohnsonBBC @WBAReport It’s only ‘simple’ if you ignore adjustments and mitigation though. Whether they’re actually over the threshold isn’t always clear-cut, and even then sanctions aren’t automatic—especially if they’ve been working under EFL oversight.”

@kulaB70 @WBAReport There is a point back in mitigation in the regulations already for the reducing losses season-on-season. It is a test, because the EFL now says it IS black and white.

West Brom face a deduction of 2-3 points if found guilty of breaching P&S rules. It could potentially dump them into the Championship relegation zone. But we might not even find out until after the season finishes on 2 May... 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

@DaleJohnsonBBC @WBAReport But that’s worst case isn’t it? Even if there’s a technical breach, there are still adjustments and mitigation—especially if the club have been operating under EFL supervision. It’s not as black and white as just being over the threshold = points deduction.”

@kulaB70 @WBAReport In the Leicester case, the Premier League wanted a much, much higher penalty but only received six. It was a complicated case with many factors. For WBA, it would be a simple case of being over the £39m threshold under EFL rules. The penalty is set out in the rules.
