We will look back in 20 years and realise we misallocated capital at an absurd scale. We funded 50 edtech startups. India's precision component imports grew every single year. Nobody built the boring thing. The boring thing was the whole point.

Met the team from QpiAI, a Bengaluru-based deeptech company at the forefront of India’s quantum journey and the developers of the country’s first indigenously built quantum computer for commercial use. Had a detailed discussion during which they appraised me of their ambitious roadmap to scale from a 25-qubit quantum computer to a 1,000-qubit system within the next two to three years. We also discussed the deployment of QpiAI’s quantum computer, India’s first ever, at IIIT-Dharwad, where we have recently announced a Centre of Excellence in Quantum AI and Computing. Karnataka Government is moving decisively in the quantum space and will continue to work closely with companies like QpiAI to advance and realise the Karnataka Quantum Roadmap.

@sanjeevsanyal @smitaprakash You sir are in the PMO. Don’t say that citizens need to speak up. The citizens have (supposedly) elected politicians to the job. If we’ve seen anything from our neighbours- when citizens speak they roar. We don’t need that here. All issues u spoke of are super imp!!

STORY | India sets its own air standards; global rankings not official: Govt The government on Thursday told Parliament that global air quality rankings cited by various organisations are not conducted by any official authority and that the World Health Organisation's (WHO) air quality guidelines serve only as advisory values, not binding standards. Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha on India's position in global indices such as IQAir's World Air Quality Ranking, the WHO Global Air Quality Database, the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) and the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) metrics, the Environment Ministry said no official country-wise pollution ranking is carried out worldwide. Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh said the WHO's guidelines are meant to help countries set their own standards, taking into account geography, environmental conditions, background levels and national circumstances. Indian Aviation is all about Renting We don’t build a single aircraft we fly. Not one. Half our pilots train in America because we can’t even buy enough simulators - every single Level D simulator is imported. Our LCCs? IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa - all running on Amadeus-owned Navitaire. Every bag at every major airport moves on German belts (BEUMER runs them ALL). SITA powers 43 airports. Air India flew widebodies to *California* for cabin retrofits because we can’t do it here. Even our damn galley carts are imported. Not one bolt, rivet, or seat manufactured in India. We’re not building an aviation industry but I hope we are just around the corner
Air India@airindia

#ImportantUpdate A third-party system disruption has been affecting check-in systems at various airports, resulting in delays across multiple airlines, including Air India. Our airport teams are working diligently to ensure a smooth check-in experience for all passengers. While the system is progressively getting restored, some of our flights may continue to experience delays until the situation fully normalises. We request passengers to check their flight status at airindia.com/in/en/manage/f… before leaving for the airport, and to allow additional time for their journey. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.

@VishnuNDTV Unnecessary to always compare. We need to own up and improve. Instead of looking at the best, the systemic thought process is to compare with the worst. Look up man, not down.

I totally get your point, Raymond and therefore, this isn't an outrage tweet. But just, for a moment, imagine the reverse side of the story - It takes 6.5 odd months for an Indian national to get an appointment for a visa at, say, the US Embassy in Delhi. Families wait anxiously for months, line up, collect a ton of financial documentation, letters, permissions, bookings. They face INTENSE scrutiny at the counter - their dreams of travelling are often summarily dismissed and then, if cleared, even more scrutiny awaits them at the immigration counter upon arrival at their destination. Often ridiculous questions - not just in the US but essentially anywhere in the West. On a visit from Zurich to London a few years back, I was asked why I had been in Switzerland - I said I attended the World Economic Forum in Davos. I was asked, cheekily, ''Did you really?'' And was then asked to tell the officer the agenda at the World Economic Forum that year. Trust me, that is a VERY specific question. Fortunately I had the answer. To my point, the India e-visa application page may leave a lot to be desired - but India welcomes most people and rejects far fewer people than several other countries.
Raymond Russell@raymondopolis

(1) I love India (2) Anybody who applies for an e-visa to India knows the website is always comically, profoundly, embarrassingly broken It looks like it was written in 2003, kicks you out randomly without saving your work, won't charge your credit card until your nineteenth attempt But this is a new one—halfway through the business visa application, it displays a list of the tallest peaks in each Indian state?? Come on folks, I'm just trying to invest in your country!

@IndianTechGuide True! Indians are naturally afraid of authority but currently there’s no authority in India that you have to be afraid of We have to start making examples of bad actors. Even developed countries like Singapore cane petty criminals and we early release child molesters from jail

🚨 Opinion: In a country of India’s size, only strict and well-enforced policies can ensure public discipline. No one is afraid to - Piss on a city roadside. - Throw trash beside the road/pond. - Sell pan gutka and spit on roads/walls. - Walk recklessly in the middle of the roads. - Stare at women and misbehave. Is the Indian government too soft on its public?

Delhi has the prime minister, president, Supreme Court judges, army chiefs, AIIMS doctors and most of the other powerful people in India. And, yet, the AQI is close to 1000 and the issue remains unsolved for years. How absolutely nuts is that!

Kabul City road: wide sidewalks, clear markings, barely any potholes. How does a war-torn, poor country have better intra-city roads than many of ours? Low population? But China has a massive population and still maintains excellent roads. The real difference, I think, is simple: zero tolerance for corruption. The Taliban and Communist China impose extreme penalties for corruption, even death, while we barely manage a functional jail term. How many contractors or govt officials here have ever gone to jail for rampant road-project corruption?

The smart ones leave the country. The optimists stay hoping that the country will change. But it’s a losing battle. All these government agents will comment it was “tragic” - the loss of life. But these pilots are the best of India’s populace and this is how we treat them back
