@petergyang Honestly, you can get pretty far by hiring a designer to give you a light weight brand guidelines and tell Claude to build a modern design system based on the guidelines and shadcn.

How do I make sure my Claude Design / pencil(dot)dev / etc has taste when it designs stuff. 1. Is there some design skill file I can use? 2. Should I always get it to create a design system first? Designers reading this tweet you can roll your eyes but then give me some tips :)

On topic: there is a mistake I saw large companies make in late 2025/early 2026 which is they picked their coding model provider, chat tool, and harness and put the whole company on it. There was a big leap in model ability and folks felt confident. I have been walking into these teams and they have no idea how good codex is or that notion AI is sick af, of what’s what in the agent world. And now they’re sunk in a contract AND internal intertia while missing out on the best & most efficient tools of the moment. Let me say it again for people in the back: We are pre convergence on tools!!! Keep your organizational options open!!! Consumer (well, enterprise) choice is a gift when everyone is competing for your business and capabilities jump every month. Leverage it.

Hard to see all the tech layoffs this year, but it’s also hard to not see big tech as a sort of jobs program. I know many folks who don’t start their day regularly until 10am, and often check out at 3:30 or 4pm. Many have grown accustomed to the lifestyle and think it’s normal.

San Jose is the worst parts of modern San Francisco culture combined with the worst parts of Los Angeles Suburban sprawl. Pinole, Hercules and Rodeo are all different neighborhoods in one city. Crockett, Port Costa and downtown Martinez are also the same city. That is all.

Yes, you lose a lot to taxes, but that's life Great homes for $2M or less with plenty of space Public schools that are ranked well and free Plentiful childcare that doesn't cost as much Great weather and outdoor activities Only downside is a commute, but you can't have it all
