Libertarianism is a lie. @ChristianHeiens Liberalism and Progressivism are in no way the same thing. The former pushes individualism and consistency while he latter elevates collectivism and equitable outcomes (with a focus on Identity). Eg: a liberal wouldn't 'de-platform' campus speakers, a neoprogressive would.

Noah’s essay, which I actually highly recommend, reads like a tortured soul who is beginning to understand that this wasn’t a detour but rather the destination itself. The tragedy for guys like him is that they’re only just now starting to possibly realize that Progressivism didn’t emerge out of the darkness and destroy Liberalism over the last decade or so. Progressivism IS Liberalism. It’s what happens when liberal premises are taken seriously and followed through to their logical conclusion over an extended period of time. Progressivism displaced Liberalism precisely because Liberalism won. This is what your victory looks like in practice. The problem is that Noah is still trying to save Liberalism from its own destiny, which necessarily means undoing Liberalism’s own victories even if that isn’t your intention.

Yeah, Canada has many problems. It’s tough to be young & inherit this country in it’s current state but this place and its people are nothing but incredible. Everything in me wants to stick with it and see it through I believe in the North 🇨🇦

@CdnElectWatch I'm not a fan of AS:AD. There's a huge replication crisis in economics, same as psychology. Both suffer from physics envy and try to force an illegitimate square worldview into a round reality hole. Austrian economics doesn't give easy answers but it describes macro 10x better.

@kylehermann I’m sympathetic to the view that we might want to add an alternative measure that better tracks the pressure on household finances (e.g. down payment, increasing tech needs, etc.). However, either way, M2 is a poor measure since the velocity of money varies.

"Lost decade" implies it's a bad thing. We should *want* home prices to track inflation and not exceed wage growth. Your return is inflation (~2%) plus saved rent net of ownership costs (2-3%), all tax-free. Is a bond that pays 4-5% after tax not good enough?

The only natural analogue to left-wing values is heat death, the theoretical end of the universe, where all structures (i.e. differences, inequalities, borders) are dissolved into a state of maximal equality (i.e. nothingness), and which all living things resist by the very act of being alive. If you love living things and desire a natural way of being, you have to be right wing
