The Demise Of The Season Ticket Holder I want to give a bit more context on why I believe the recent sanctions being issued to Season Ticket Holders (STHs) are happening, and why I think there’s a revenue-driven agenda to reduce the number of STHs from the last published figure of 46,800 (see repost). When the Glazers took over the club, they gradually increased the number of Season Tickets. The benefit of doing so was that it brought more money into the club upfront, at the start of each season, through renewals. Back then, there wasn't much difference between what a Season Ticket Holder paid per game and what a member paid to attend the same match. Last June, Liverpool reported having 34,000 Season Ticket Holders, which represented around 55% of their stadium capacity. By comparison, Manchester United sits at around 62%. That might not sound like a huge difference, but financially it’s significant if the club replaces those season tickets with higher-priced memberships and hospitality. To bring United down to the same 55%, the club would need to reduce the number of Season Ticket Holders by around 5,800. For the sake of simplicity, I’ll use my own Season Ticket as an example. The figures won’t apply to everyone, but they illustrate why not only United but also a number of Premier League clubs may be looking to reduce the number of legacy Season Ticket Holders. My Season Ticket costs £874 a season (£46 x 19 league games). If my Season Ticket were removed and those same seats were instead sold to members at current match-by-match prices, the income would look something like this: 6 Category A games: 6 × £81 = £486 10 Category B games: 10 × £73 = £730 3 Category C games: 3 × £58 = £174 That totals £1,390. So, on my seat alone, the club would generate an additional £516 per season — an increase of almost 60%. Now apply that same principle across 5,800 Season Ticket Holders, and the additional revenue is almost £3 million per season (around £2.99m based on these figures). There could be additional operational costs to the club around all of this, but I don’t believe it would make the chase for the extra revenue pointless This also doesn’t include any additional memberships that would need to be purchased for a member to obtain tickets. Of course, these are illustrative numbers based solely on my own ticket price, and the actual figure would vary depending on where seats are located and how they’re repriced. But it indicates the financial incentive to reduce the number of Season Ticket Holders and replace them with more profitable ticketing models. Now, you could argue that United did issue new Season Tickets after the renewal deadline, so they can’t be actively trying to reduce the overall number. My counter-argument would be that they still need to be seen to issue some Season Tickets while encouraging supporters to buy a Premium Membership, pay a Season Ticket deposit and commit to a Cup Season Ticket. If the club were seen to be significantly reducing the number of Season Ticket Holders, the whole model would start to unravel, as fewer people would see the value in paying deposits and memberships while waiting for a ticket that may never come. That, in turn, could reduce revenue from those products. The question then becomes whether the additional income from converting more seats to member sales and hospitality outweighs the potential loss in Premium Memberships, deposits and Cup Season Tickets. I don’t know the answer, but it’s certainly part of the financial equation. The club will be crunching the numbers across all these scenarios. Whether that’s what’s happening is open to debate, but when you look at the economics, it’s not difficult to see why clubs may be tempted.

TRA - The Red Army (MUFC)
So, two more of ours recently had the email inferring that they have been touting their STs. Father & son, both time-served and as loyal as they come, neither have ever missed a home game in at least 9 years since TRA began. T is 75 yrs old, 1968 ECF attendee and S, his son, is a key member of the TRA leadership team. Both are devestated and understandably ill with anxiety. What The Club fail to take into account (or don't seem to care about), is the impact that unfounded accusations against a person's character can have on their mental health and well being. Innocent Reds may now miss games or worse, have their hard earned money stolen from them & banned under a presumption of guilt. Couple that with the fact that for some, this may be the one real release that they have in their lives and the one activity that they do together with friends or as a family - and this doesn't reflect at all well on a Club which prides itself on being at the head of 'the United family'. Naturally we're looking into how we can work together alongside other groups and individuals to have the 'guilty until proven innocent' approach overturned and replaced with one which demonstrates empathy & respect to Manchester United's loyal, match-going supporters. We're all against touting but a system like this only serves to widen the divide between The Club and its match-going fanbase and deepens a long-standing, well founded distrust of the people making these decisions. Collette Roche When Collette says "with our supporters", I'd genuinely like to know which supporters she's referring to. Everything I've fed back through fan surveys, and everyone I know who regularly attends matches, whether they've been going for a few years or a few decades, wants to stay where we are. Spend five minutes on social media, and you'll find plenty of others expressing the same view. If the club insists that the majority of supporters favour a new stadium, it should publish the data supporting that claim and break that data down appropriately. The club can separate responses from match-going supporters, season-ticket holders, executive members and regular members from those who may never have attended a game at Old Trafford. If the evidence genuinely shows overwhelming support for a new stadium, then I don't see any issue with being transparent and sharing the results. At the moment, we're simply being asked to accept the narrative. If the majority of supporters really are behind the project, then show us the proof. Transparency would only strengthen the club's position. It often feels as though the strongest voices pushing for a new stadium are those who rarely, if ever, attend games. Without data to prove otherwise, it appears the drive for a new stadium isn't coming from match-going supporters; it's coming from owners who still haven't properly explained how they'll fund it. Prove us wrong. No doubt a lucrative naming rights deal will contribute, but what about the rest? Personal Seat Licences? That's hardly a solution that improves affordability. Then there's the proposal for at least 25% of the stadium to be made up of hospitality seating. As per this post, match-day pricing of tickets is spiralling out of reach for many supporters (x.com/OhCheesesChris…) Let's be honest: we're not even going to sell out a 100,000-capacity stadium week in, week out, especially at current pricing levels. The club has already priced out many of the supporters it will need to fill those seats. I'm sure the business model has accounted for these scenarios, but I'd question the credibility of those projections when so many loyal supporters are already being pushed away from regular attendance simply due to affordability. There's little value in Supporter Groups approaching this from different angles. The decision on relocation and the new build is, in all likelihood, beyond the point of being reversed. What's important now is ensuring that, as Collette said, the club genuinely listens to all supporters, but also recognises the difference between those who attend regularly, those who attend occasionally, and those who never attend but still have strong opinions on what match-going fans should want. What we need now is a united approach from supporter groups: a coalition with a clear, consistent message. Rather than working against one another, they need to be organised and aligned, ensuring that before any key decisions are finalised, supporters have meaningful input and the club is compelled to listen, learn and implement in a way that keeps as many regular match-going supporters on board as possible. Risking that, loses so much of what Manchester United Football Club is about.

The CST scheme itself is great. It’s created a tangible pathway to a Full ST, with 2,500+ supporters benefiting over the past two seasons. 🎟️ What’s crazy is that supporters who’ve paid deposits and sat on the Season Ticket waiting list for years aren’t getting first dibs on new CSTs. For years MUFC have taken deposits on the promise of priority for a Season Ticket. Now they’re being told to buy a £70 Premium Membership and join the same queue as everyone else. So what exactly was the point of paying the deposit

"Your tickets are secure, are you f**king sure" ​Despite Manchester United’s assurances that digital NFC tickets are fully secure, a major flaw in the @SeatGeek ticketing platform leaves supporters highly vulnerable to unauthorised access. By knowing a fan's Supporter ID and just their surname or postcode, anyone can unauthorisedly view, download, and use their tickets without the owners knowledge. This has already resulted in legitimate ticket holders being turned away at both home and away matches because their tickets had already been scanned. ​The issue was deliberately kept quiet during the season to minimise disruption, but with the Premier League aiming for fully digital tickets next season, it must be prioritised over the summer. The risk is exacerbated by a club culture where fans have widely shared their Supporter IDs for ticket-forwarding purposes, and instances where Manchester United emails have inadvertently exposed this information.
