@TransLink Any updates on the stadium-chinatown elevator? It's supposed to be done "early 2026”

@Lucyincanada Not "avoid service cuts" but "in addition to service cuts" - or in sanitized language "expense saving"

@l_christe So the significant budget cuts have required increased user fees and parking fees to avoid service cuts - instead of modest increases in revenue through property taxes where the wealthiest contribute more?

@PeterMeiszner How much do you reasonably think staff can "find efficiencies"? Do you think they can "find efficiencies" indefinitely and never raise taxes? You can "direct staff" to "protect frontline services" all you want - but when there isn't enough money to get things done, stuff stops.

Instead, we have directed staff to find efficiencies and run the city in a leaner and smarter way--while protecting frontline services. In an affordability crisis, we must take measures to tighten our belt, just as households are doing. #vanpoli

The Park Board has been underfunded for years and our facilities are already in poor condition. We have no fat left to trim. Where is the support for our front line workers? Lifeguards, park rangers, janitorial, gardeners, etc? 4/4

Calling this budget an "investment in Parks & Recreation" is patently incorrect. There will be "spending reductions" (CUTS) and "increased revenue targets" (HIGHER FEES). 3/4

Not only will staff need to cut $100 Million from city programs to meet the 0% property tax promise, but they'll now have to cut an additional $17 Million to make up for the VPD's cost overruns. #vanpoli council.vancouver.ca/20251105/docum…

Hey remember when Ken Sim voted against coordinating and consulting with the host nations when they started down this path? Which by the way is what the province wants the city to do now? I do! #vanpoli

Mayor Ken Sim@KenSimCity

The Province failed to consult with local First Nations and the City of Vancouver ahead of the introduction of this legislation in its current form. Our position has been clear all along. It’s the responsibility of the Minister to properly engage on her own legislation.

@PeterMeiszner @Vote4ABC Let's also not forget that it was an motion ABC that directed staff to bring back these parking fees. They asked for revenue opportunities, but then shut them down when asked to implement. That seems like an inefficient use of staff resources.

@l_christe @Vote4ABC PS, very disappointed to see your support of a $25 event parking rate at Van Dusen Gardens. This is unaffordable for many Vancouver families and I am surprised to see you support it, @l_christe #vanpoli

@PeterMeiszner @Vote4ABC Unfortunately the choice is between 1-month of event parking rates (for a small lot that is always full during the event) or cutting frontline services that residents use every day. I wish we didn't have to be in this position, but we've been asked to cut almost $24M.
