After a month of zero sales and zero page reads on KU, yesterday someone read 7 pages of my poetry book. And you know what, 7 is much better than zero… 🥹

@KT_Carlisle It’s terrifying because ChatGPT, from what I understand, uses all inputted data for its intelligence… what if your story concept, quotes, or ideas get shared with others looking to write a book with it? YIKES.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like it's more than reasonable at this point for agents to request that publishers sign a contract stating that any works they put on submission on behalf of their clients will not be run through generative AI programs like ChatGPT to "read and review" their work and determine its market potential. Like, is that truly so unreasonable? Publishing houses shouldn't be using such programs at all in my opinion, so what basis can they give for refusing to make such a basic promise as not plugging manuscripts into theft machines, especially without the author's consent?

@la_sobon @vickyweberbooks The industry is always evolving. Impossible to say what will happen next. But I must say most editors I know never felt secure. A few unsuccessful books and you are out the door.

What I keep hearing from publishing people is that this feels structurally similar to 2007. Acquisitions getting tougher, imprints consolidating, editors leaving for freelance because the stability isn't there anymore. 😔
