[NEWS] Toyota just updated its broker policy: For context, Kia just warned dealers yesterday that broker activity can violate its sales policy. And now, Toyota is reinforcing a similar message, this time tied directly to allocation and incentive eligibility. According to the update: • Sales only count as “retail” if there’s a true end consumer at the time of sale. • That means vehicles sold for resale, rental, or future use generally don’t qualify. Toyota says rental or dealer-use units must be placed into legitimate use immediately. And then stay in that use for a meaningful period (e.g., ~120 days) More importantly: Today’s memo stresses that allocation can be adjusted if dealers are caught trying to game the system. Wild times… (Source: Toyota / Kia)

Here’s a very simple example: All Clad has four lines of pans, D3, D5, Copper core and graphite. Figuring out what the hell is going on here would take forever in another lifetime. This prompt basically answered all my questions with a couple follow ups “I’d like to better understand the difference between the all clad cookware lines. I don’t really care about price. Help me think through and understand the pros and cons to copper core vs graphite vs their other options. What tradeoffs should I consider? How much do these materials impact performance and usage? Can a home cook even tell or is this ultimately just marketing? Please supplement your insights with real consumer feedback and be mindful of integrating paid advertising which is worthless to me” Plenty of other examples but that’s a concrete one where I was like “oh this is just so much easier to understand than it was beforehand”

One of the most positive changes from AI: I feel more informed as a consumer than I ever have Shopping is SO much better. The best products are easier to find, and marketing is easier to debunk I think AI will ultimately force more companies to compete on product quality

Quick one to keep on the radar: Hyundai and Kia sold ~1.8M units in the U.S. in 2025. A big chunk of that starts hitting the used market over the next 2–4 years. That’s a lot of incoming supply, which matters more right now, because new-car margins at some stores aren’t what they used to be. So, in honor of Fixed Ops Friday, I ask: Hyundai/Kia dealers — what are you doing right now to outperform last year in used and fixed? And what’s the plan to stay ahead of the incoming supply? (Data source: Korea Herald / CDG Breakdown)

@quitalovesports It's very clear the two sent this out precisely because they aren't in the majority at the ex comm, and couldn't change the leadership or strategy from within. Big that Collier, Stewart's partner in UnRiv, did not sign on.

@quitalovesports Loved this. As a former union rep I agree that this is HIGHLY unusual, and does not bode well for the PA

So nice this morning I took time from writing the book and hit a shed-antler spot. The first bleached thing that caught my eye was only old bones, not deer bones. But it was a good morning. Beside three deer, no antlers, I saw an American red squirrel (pine squirrel) scurrying.

Hassett on new study from NY Fed showing 90% of tariff burden is being shouldered by US firms & consumers: "The paper is an embarrassment. It's I think the worst paper I've ever seen in the history of the Fed system. The people associated with this paper should presumably be disciplined."
