Fastest way to lose your cred as someone covering video games is to be very bad at actually playing them.
Those same people happen to be the same people that have nothing insightful to say about the games they are playing, and just cover drama all day.

There's about a million valuable lessons in everything that transpired around Highguard from its artistic direction, F2P model, genre fatigue, strange gameplay design, questionable funding source, and so on.
Sadly, I expect many of those errors to be repeated within a year or so when another team convinces themselves that they won't fail in the same way.

There is no live service fatigue, at all.
Live service make up more hours than any other genre.
The problem isn't fatigue, its that breaking into that market is insanely difficult as the big players are so established

Now that Highguard is shutting down, I hope that every game studio and especially Sony will finally understand that live-service fatigue is real and gamers want good single player story driven games. Studios shouldn’t suffer layoffs and closures because the upper management forces them to make everything live-service. The money and budget that was wasted on some live-service game like Concord, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and the notorious “AAAA” Skull and Bones would’ve probably equal to 5-6 good single player games. If you take a look at cancelled games for PlayStation 5, most of them were live-service titles. Its no wonder then why this generation of consoles had so few exclusive titles.

Yall only say this when a game fails. Marvel Rivals broke into the scene and did well, Arc Raiders the same thing. Overwatch has had a whole resurgence and Marathon is topping pre order charts. Don’t get me started on what games are most played weekly on all platforms 😐
