@lacancerous

This was always an unholy project: the symbolic, the imaginary, and the real, and so on and so on.

I’m waiting for IKEA and Lego to merge into the mega corporation that runs our lives. It will be a prison of our own making.

@lacancerous As I have been victimized by homophones before, I feel it is necessary to tell you that I believe the correct spelling is "canon" (one n) in this context. I am all about high art pop/rock music though, I'll definitely get involved with that.

There is an undefined cannon of twentieth century high art pop/rock music. Songs and albums which aspired to artistic purity. In the coming weeks I will be putting forth the cannon as I see it through a series of spaces. I welcome anyone and everyone to join in the debate and discuss the value of any song I put forward. The goal is to begin the conversation a cannon of the true art pieces of music created in the last century with full hindsight. The schedule is to be decided in the near future but I plan to hold a regular series of spaces going forward: each focused on a particular song I would like to place in the previously defined cannon. My spaces will be strictly focused on the music itself, the value of the piece of art and structured as a a presentation of my chosen song followed by an open floor to individuals to ask questions of any hosts who are presenting with a subsequent open floor for discussion among the group of speakers. I am open to any suggestions of songs but would like to limit each discussion to a yes or no on inclusion in the cannon rather than comparative analysis. I will post each song a day ahead of time so that I can be heard unadulterated with the link to my space. “All are welcome” I say as I post into the void

@lacancerous This is fantastic. You've got 283 followers. You don't have to do anything at all for anyone on here. And you're spending your time trying to make a bunch of strangers lives just a little bit better, a little deeper, and more joyful. Respect, brother.

@TSteelsen83575 It’s like a small book club or a dinner party to me. If I play to a room of 5 people at least I don’t have to haul all my amps across town to do it

@lacancerous Thank you. There's nothing like kindness. And in that spirit, I look forward to being shamed as you parade Amon Duul in front of me, and I respond with There Will Be Fireworks and you laugh. But I can offer a hefty amount of thumos.

@lacancerous I'm game, and I'll follow you for this. I have a million unshakeable opinions about songs that you probably won't like. I, too, speak into the void.

When are people most available to participate in a space on music: Sunday or Monday? This post is limited to people I follow and I hope to have some of you there to voice opinions I felt worth while enough to give the follow in the first place

The first space will be on Pere Ubu “the modern dance” focusing on the performance included in “The Hearpen Singles” either this Sunday or Monday to be announced on Friday as to include as many of the voices I know and respect on this platform

@StephenFleming @RamboVanHalen I can only hope that history remembers me for this error instead of the innumerable ways in which I have brought shame upon mankind as a whole

I highly recommend Marquee's series on music! We had a space awhile back debating about the difference between the ancient artist and the modern artist and I learned a lot. We have had many subsequent conversations since, and I think this will very much be worth your time.

Music is something you can feel but not hold. Its vibrations are felt in the ears and the body, and abstractly in the soul and emotions, but the moment it stops it’s gone forever, relegated to memory. It’s not like a poem or painting, constant across time – music has to “happen”.

As someone who plays cello and piano, with varying degrees of proficiency, I will say the practical angle of being able to actually access and transport your own instrument is significant. Being able to bring your own instrument that you are intimately familiar with to play rather than having to play a different piano on every room is in fact very nice

@MTClassical All of his stuff is wonderful: it uses the Lydian chromatic concept where notes are placed on a scale of dissonance based on fourths rather than a harmonic system based in thirds. It’s a very specific but spectacular way of approaching the theory

@lacancerous The only time I ever drove through NYC (as I was headed upstate and the flight was cheaper into the city) we turned on the radio it played all of Dolphy's Conversations. Unforgettable moment and we got the album asap when we got home.

@JonasKilker @soulful_indigo Fair. Perhaps a system of rate each of these 4 choices 1-5 in how true you believe them to be would be more accurate for a set of defined choices to abstract questions

This was interesting. I think I was most fascinated by this question. It almost implies that “corrupt” means “anti-democratic”. As soon as I read this I thought “Corrupt how? That matters a lot” Perhaps that’s my 25% Nietzschean pull.

This was a very interesting metric to analyze my current philosophical position. I recommend checking out his website and the subsequent quizzes that are prompted from the “Philosophical DNA” quiz.
