it’s interesting that it’s gone completely over people’s heads why a trans woman in this situation would refer to herself this way, it’s a power move to deflect the taboo and shame back on the guy who in this moment is supposed to have power over her

@StopTweetingMia It's such an interesting take on the YA romance genre! I think it also feels more real than a lot of trans romantic YA which is intended to affirm our experiences, which makes it a nice palate cleanser

To say more: Define sex. Now define gender. You might have used each word in the other’s definition. That’s because the two terms are two faces of the same concept: sex-gender.

@trefinedAura To be clear, I'm saying we can use "transsexual" as an organising tool for medical transition until our political strategy makes everyone a transsexual, but I think from a campaigns perspective we need to start somewhere! Could be helpful to think about it dialectically

@trefinedAura By the time we persuade menopausal women who want testosterone that they too are transsexuals or whatever, we will mostly be dead. I get the sense you're feeling this as an either/or, while I'm seeing it as a both/and

@trefinedAura I don't think you are being cruel, but I don't think you're right given the similarities between the UK's and the USA's trans discourse.
There is coalition building around this which I've done (esp. with feminists), but it alone will be insufficient for the kind of change needed

@trefinedAura This doesn't include FFS/FMS, breast augmentation/reduction, progesterone etc. The people for whom this matters on a day to day basis (the transsexuals) are (I'd posit) a heterogeneous but viable political group. By expanding the means of medical transition we can even grow it!

@trefinedAura From a utopian perspective I think it can indeed be anyone! On a practical level though, in my country those who are waiting for state-funded transition related healthcare are waiting (conservatively) 5.5 years to begin to access it.

@trefinedAura And for TS/TG, I wouldn't even make having accessed medical transition a condition, just those for whom want it/have had it (as an imperfect grouping)

@trefinedAura We can basically make the same arguments about binary/non-binary (and conceptually I probably would), but recognise that non-binary is a political coalition more so than a neat and tidy concept

Hundreds of people marched through Bristol today campaigning for better rights for the transgender community.
Although the city is seen as one of the safer places for trans people to live, organisers of Trans Pride Bristol say more still needs to be done.

Gutted and sad Labour lost glad Reform didn’t win . Greens campaign was divisive and shamelessly courted one part of the community but people were terrified Reform could do it . Lessons to learn thanks to every single one of our supporters who never gave up and did their best

@BeeNetwork I'm still at the bus stop because the next number 30 bus hasn't arrived 😭😭 Because it has been so long since the bus was supposed to arrive I won't be able to use the "hopper" fare, so I'll be charged twice the price that I'd usually pay. Is there anything I can do about that?

@BeeNetwork is there anything we can do about drivers skipping stops? The number 30 bus didn't pick anyone up from its starting stop at Piccadilly Gardens a few minutes ago (just drove directly past) and the bus is only every 30 mins 😭

@uncanny_eli @Cassperture @htmljones The only area in the current specification it matters is for lower surgery. It's a minimum of one appointment with a GRC, minimum of two without under the surgical spec

@Cassperture @htmljones i’ve not been aware of any recent circumstance in which a GRC allows you to skip any element of the waitlist (although a pre existing dysphoria diagnosis usually allows you to skip to the second appointment)

early indications of actions post-levy:
- doubling down on rcgp ban on bridged prescriptions and SCAs
- banning self referrals
- banning trans prisoners from getting care
none of this will decrease waiting times or expand access
