@Our_DA Cleaning of drains should have been weeks before the rainy season. Oh I see that JP Smith is back now.

💙🤝 Thank you to the City of Cape Town teams who have been working tirelessly to clear the damage following the storms. The teams have attended to issues of localised flooding, power and water outages, as well as the clearing of drains and fallen trees. Your resilience is commended.

So the President is now proceeding with his review of the Independent Panel’s findings and report. This is exactly what we foresaw in December 2022. It is obviously the President’s right to do so. My frustration is with the members of the National Assembly who acted with blind loyalty or blind prejudice. Only @ForGoodZA anticipated that rejecting the Independent Panel’s report would be irrational as would proceeding to impeachment while the President was planning to review the Report. We proposed an alternative resolution that anticipated what the ConCourt found & where we are now 🤯!

People in Cape Town, especially those in need of the City’s support, are battling a devastating storm. JP Smith, who is responsible for Disaster Relief, is out of the City, out of the Province, protesting “race quotas”. Apparently much more important to show alignment with anti-transformation forces than to show support and solidarity to those suffering under water.
Democratic Alliance@Our_DA

🚨 Taking a stand against race quotas that lock people out of jobs! Today, the DA's JP Smith joins hands with the people of Nelson Mandela Bay and our Mayoral Candidate, Retief Odendaal. A vote for the DA is a vote for jobs. Make yours count, visit check.da.org.za now.

The Constitutional Court has ruled: Parliament must establish an impeachment committee. Irrational votes cannot bury accountability, integrity demands action. #GOODParty #PhalaPhala

This is wrong in all respects. That's what the apartheid regime did to Steve Biko. It might be nice to your ears and eyes for now but this is inhumane and disrespectful. Who's this guy? A murderer or an honorable member of parliament who went about doing what he's elected to do?

Honestly let Mkhwanazi know in as much as we support his decisiveness in dealing with crime, if it’s true that Mr Adams regardless of what ever law he broke I don’t think it was necessary to drive him in a police van all the way from Cape Town to KZn humility is key from Police!!

Last Thursday: a win for Cape Town residents. The High Court has declared the City’s fixed cleaning, water and sanitation charges unlawful and invalid. GOOD, alongside SAPOA and AfriForum, challenged these unfair, property-based tariffs from day one, because bills must be fair, lawful and affordable. This ruling protects households and reminds local government that power has limits. #GOODParty #CapeTown #FairBills #RuleOfLaw

GOOD is the only political party that took this matter beyond the Council chamber to court, at significant cost. It did so because the unlawful tariff scheme targeted groups of people for extra payments they simply cannot afford, including those who have inherited property or whose property values have escalated exponentially due to gentrification or development.  If the Mayor were allowed to charge residents whatever he wishes, it would effectively force members of these groups to consider downgrading their accommodation – the diametric opposite of development. #GOODParty #Tariffs #CapeTown

We’ve had one victory against abuse of power or executive overreach - with @Our_DA learning their @CityofCT is not a law unto themselves & their Mayor is not a king. The Western Cape High Court found their attempt to disguise taxes as service tariffs unlawful. Reminder: we’re still await the Gauteng High Court to decide on their unlawful electricity tariffs for 2022, 2023 & 2024. This is an extract from NERSA’s assessment of the CoCT’s 2025/26 tariff application:
