Network speed dictates profit margins, while network latency governs the lifeblood of the entire Web3 ecosystem. To cut down latency, traditional financial systems rely on centralized server rooms and dedicated hardware, which runs entirely counter to the original vision of decentralization. Backed by over two decades of technical experience, Optimum adopts RLNC (Random Linear Network Coding) to optimize networks at the software level. It greatly improves overall throughput and optimizes latency performance, maintaining stable and smooth transmission even under massive data traffic. The project establishes an equitable network value system. Performance upgrades deliver benefits to every participant, putting an end to monopolies held by centralized privileged nodes. All nodes work together to expand network capacity, eliminating zero-sum competition and enabling shared growth and prosperity across the whole ecosystem.@get_optimum

The value of the work we're doing at @get_optimum is encapsulated quite well by the phrase "speed is money". In modern markets there are real economic advantages to latency reduction. This is nothing new. Wall Street firms have long been optimizing on latency, primarily through colocation and top of the line hardware. However, when it comes to decentralized systems, expensive hardware and geographic concentration are antithetical to their purpose. Therefore we should optimize decentralized network latency through software, which I'm thrilled about because it's exactly what I've spent the better part of the past 2 decades working on with Random Linear Network Coding. Now let’s talk about networking economics, the relationship between speed and money. First, it's important to note that users will only pay for low latency if it can be consistently guaranteed. Second, you can only make that latency guarantee for a certain number of users. This is a universal law of networking. We can model this relationship on a delay curve, shown below. The delay curve is determined by the utilization rate of the network, meaning how much traffic is flowing through the network divided by the network's throughput. As you approach a level of traffic equal to the available throughput, latency trends infinitely higher. On this delay curve we can impose some utility thresholds. These thresholds are the levels of latency which are important to different groups of users because of how that latency guarantee improves their economic outcomes. Finding the point on the curve where each threshold intersects will tell us what level of traffic we can guarantee that level of latency for. Essentially, there exists a finite supply of speed on a network and the highest utility users of that speed are willing to pay more for it. I like to think of this similarly to expedited shipping options on Amazon. This is why we say speed is money, and why we can create a Latency Marketplace. The only way to increase the supply of speed is to fundamentally increase network throughput. This is what we work on at Optimum by using Random Linear Network Coding. The same relationship between traffic and throughput still applies, but now the delay curve is shifted out further to the right. Now more traffic can be processed at the same latency, or the same traffic can be processed at a lower latency. More speed available to the network. More value unlocked for the network’s users. Crucially, that value is no longer only reserved for those who can afford to sit closest to the machine. Expanding the supply of speed widens who can reach each latency threshold, keeping the network's advantage decentralized rather than concentrated in the hands of a few. When nodes join Optimum and participate, they reap the benefits, but they also add to the capacity. Rather than vying against each other in a zero-sum game, nodes help themselves and others.

Optimum technological foundation is not built up in a short period of time, but rather stems from @MurielMedard continuous research over the past fifteen years. Compared to many new projects that chase trends, this long-term investment is itself worthy of attention. @get_optimum

I used to think Web3 was slow because blockchains weren’t fast enough. More TPS. More powerful machines. More optimized chains. That was the answer everyone seemed to be chasing. But the more I learned about how data actually moves through networks, the more I started questioning that idea. Maybe the problem was never just the engine. Maybe it was the road. Imagine having the fastest car in the world… but the roads are broken. Traffic everywhere. Wrong routes. Missing pieces. Constant delays. You can build a faster car, but you’re still stuck. That’s what clicked for me when I started looking into Optimum. The real challenge isn’t only processing more data. It’s making sure information can actually flow. Packets get lost. Networks get messy. Things fail. That’s normal. The interesting part is whether the system can adapt when that happens. And that’s why concepts like RLNC and the Memory Layer caught my attention. Not because they promise a perfect network. But because they build a network that understands reality. A network that can recover. A network that can keep moving. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs aren’t about making something faster. They’re about removing the things that quietly slow everything down. Maybe Web3 doesn’t need another bigger highway. Maybe it needs a smarter way for information to travel. And that’s the part of Optimum I find genuinely exciting. ∞ @get_optimum

Everyone focuses on computing power upgrades, yet overlooks the real bottleneck of Ethereum scaling: the efficiency of block data propagation. Traditional P2P transmission suffers from high latency, heavy resource consumption and frequent block loss, which severely limits the network throughput and operational stability of public blockchains. Built on RLNC coding technology, Optimum reconstructs the decentralized network transmission layer. It abandons outdated serial transmission and adopts a parallel coding transmission mechanism, achieving faster block synchronization, lower bandwidth consumption and greatly improved network fault tolerance. By addressing the pain points of Ethereum's underlying communication infrastructure and innovating transmission technology, Optimum supports massive on-chain interactions and facilitates large-scale scaling of the Ethereum ecosystem. @get_optimum

"the transaction volumes coming on Ethereum are going to be many, many multiples of what we see today." Optimized networking will be incredibly important for scaling up to those levels. RLNC.

On-chain finance is expanding at a rapid pace. A growing number of financial activities are migrating onto blockchains, with overall business volumes continuously scaling up. As a result, network transmission efficiency has become a pivotal factor determining the intrinsic value of on-chain ecosystems. The blockchain industry has long been constrained by the blockchain trilemma. Boosting network processing speed usually requires compromising decentralization, while rigidly adhering to decentralization makes it difficult to support large-scale, high-concurrency financial applications. To address this universal industry challenge, Optimum has developed a proprietary solution. Powered by its self-developed native P2P communication layer, Optimum has reconstructed the entire network data transmission system. The network no longer relies on centralized servers to relay data; all nodes communicate directly on a peer-to-peer basis. This greatly reduces network latency and improves overall throughput, fully meeting the stringent demands of high-frequency trading and large-scale asset transfers for financial services. Crucially, the improved performance does not erode the core features of decentralization. There are no centralized governing nodes, and no single entity can control the permissions of the entire network. All nodes participate in network operations independently, eliminating the risk of single-point failure and preventing artificial manipulation of network protocols. All data is publicly traceable end-to-end, and transaction records are immutable, fully preserving the native security and trust advantages of blockchain technology. A sustainable on-chain economic system requires both high operational efficiency and a decentralized governance framework. Built on its independently developed underlying P2P communication network, Optimum resolves the long-standing trade-off dilemma facing the industry. It enables blockchains to accommodate massive real-world economic activities, acting as a robust foundational infrastructure for the development of decentralized finance. The long-term evolution of Web3 on-chain ecosystems relies heavily on infrastructure that combines high performance with full decentralization, and Optimum is emerging as an indispensable component of this infrastructure.@get_optimum

Every day more of the financial world is moving onchain, demanding high speeds at an increasingly large scale. So how can we speed up blockchains while retaining the decentralization that makes them such valuable venues for economic activity? Our CEO @MurielMedard is back at her whiteboard to demonstrate. ⬇️
