🚨This is the drinking water residents in Georgia say they were left with after Meta’s data center construction began in their community. 🫙1 jar of brown water just became the most powerful argument against AI infrastructure in Congress. At a congressional hearing, AOC held up water samples from private wells in Morgan County, Georgia near Meta's data center construction site. Residents say their well water turned brown after blasting and earthworks began. Appliances failed. Families switched to bottled water. Meta disputes the link, citing independent studies. The timing lands on top of a chart that's already circulating. AI water demand is projected to add 30 trillion liters annually by 2050 driven by power generation cooling, semiconductor fabrication, and data center operations. The political risk here is real. Data center siting battles are already escalating across Virginia, Texas, Georgia, and the Midwest. Water quality, grid load, noise, and property values are the local grievances. AOC calling for EPA and congressional probes is the opening move. Permitting battles, environmental reviews, and community opposition are the next ones.
