After 10 years of being told I need to get better at communicating with senior stakeholders, I've finally realised that those white men need to get better at listening to me.

@stevenjmesser Depending on the human-ness of the words used about your product, a glossary! There might be a company one, but there’s often a ‘shorthand’ for features. Also maybe simple tech stack/ how it works (processes) for the product(s). Like it!

It's your third week as a new product manager, researcher, designer or developer at a company. You want to check why or how we do something, so you check the product wiki. What do you expect to see? What's missing from this wiki?

@HarryTrimble Maybe how you respond when people do raise issues/ ideas – in the immediate term (thanking, opening out with questions) and the mid term (acting on it, not letting things fizzle). If people feel that being open is risky, you want to reduce that risk but also make it worth it, no?

What works for creating psychological safety in the teams you work in?

@pixlz I'm with @MarMurube – I wear a bumbag loads now because women's summer clothes don't tend to have pockets 😩 and the only bag I'm really happy carrying is a rucksack.

I needed some shorts for working in as I live in a furnace 🔥. Women’s shorts small with tiny or no pockets, mens all sizes available and useful pockets 🩳 but black natch

I may have got a bit trigger happy with the new send later feature on Slack 🙈

@dasbarrett I was told a sailing boat metaphor that I'll butcher here... Weaknesses are holes in your boat; you only need to fill them up as far as the waterline to stay afloat – ie be sufficiently competent. Your sails/strengths are what really drive you forward & where you should focus.

Mid-working life question: is it better to double down on the things you're good at, or develop in areas you're not so strong and/or try new things?

@_ATouchOfColour Hey! When the D&I report has data from multiple quarters or years, I'd want to see what initiatives were tried in those time periods – ie what's working/what's not.

@claragt I agree it’s ok to send whenever works for your life & mind. It’s worth thinking about the recipient’s confidence that they don’t need to reply, no? Eg if you have junior staff who don’t know it’s not expected. I love some email signatures that specify this, or scheduled send!

If I send a tweet or email or message at 2am it doesn't necessarily mean my work life balance is off. Maybe I was awake and thinking about work and it was convent, and it means I can play with my son in the sun for 2 hours the next day. I made a choice. I don't expect a reply.

@Zoe_On_The_Go I’ve just moved one into my workspace! It does help. My dangly one (lol sure that’s not the technical term) is called Jethro, my little cheese plant Eddie but think I inherited those from Patch.

I never quite understood why kanban limits items (WIP) per column until reading this. The swarming idea sounds really valuable. Seems so obvious in retrospect!

@jukesie is definitely in contention for the best boss award. I'm very pleased he picked me up off the ferry to come and work at NB/F4. He also saw the true potential of the 'Bun Squad' with @lashart93 and @ochiroma

Can I get a podcast recommendation please? I listened through ‘About Race with Reni Eddo-Lodge’ and then Radiolab’s ‘The Other Latif’. Both were superb, so I’m after something superb. Sorry for being lazy. Thank you 🙏
