Of course, the browsers should get fixed! It's naivety that they used px-sizes as defaults in the first place. They shouldn't get away with creating precedents like this. Opinions anyone? Feel free to contribute your screenshots! 4/4

Unless the red and black samples are aligned automated things are broken. It seems though, things are similarly broken across browsers, opsz is set in px. px is pt * 4/3. Font-authors are put into a bad place here: follow the spec or follow the browsers. 3/4

CSS-authors using variable fonts with an optical size axis should know that the default handling is broken in **all** browsers. There's a lengthy, opinionated discussion at github.com/w3c/csswg-draf…, despite of the OT-Spec being clear about using pt-based sizes for opsz. 1/4

Variable technology used for seamless column justification. Fantastic practical and 'under the hood' use of variable font technology demonstrated by @lassefister using the XTRA variable axis specified by @fontbureau. Interesting stuff being presented at the @ATypI TechTalks.

@PixelAmbacht Looks like on Firefox (for Linux) all of the variation sliders on the page are broken. :-( Just reporting, I did not look into the reasons.

Looking at pyfontaine, and wondering how easy/difficult it would be for someone to make a drag-and-drop web interface on top of it, so one could easily drop a font on it and get back a list of supported languages without needing to install and run locally? github.com/googlefonts/py…

@davelab6 @adamtwar @jai_type @lettersfromswe It depends in css how units are “anchored” css for print anchors usually to physical units, there one 1pt = 1/72in (and one px =1/96in) but for screens, units are anchored to the pixel defined by how big it appears at “typical viewing distance”, to avoid doing anything precise.

Reminder that InDesign uses its own font rendering engine, where Sketch and Figma render fonts exactly as the web sees them, it should be avoided for web design. 10px in InDesign isn't actually 10px

@thomas_lord „pimp“ like in the TV-show name „pimp my ride“, could also be „tune“ like in „car tuning“ or just improve. The tone is definitely more like „making a Porsche-Killer from a VW-Polo“ and the word „aufmotzen“ is often used in car-tuning context.
