If the United States truly thinks about withdrawing from NATO, then European security will be based solely on the European Union. But not in its current form. I think that the EU is in a situation where it needs more countries. The UK, Ukraine, Türkiye, and Norway. These are four strong countries, which are part of Europe. Together, the UK, Ukraine, and Türkiye have armies that are stronger than Russia's army. Without Ukraine and Türkiye, Europe can’t match Russia. With the four countries on board you can wrest control of the seas, have secure skies and the largest land forces. It’s not about offense, because when Russia makes the decision to have an army of 2.5 million people by 2030, Europe has to think about security and how to preserve its independence. The UK once was a member of the EU. There are concerns about agriculture when it comes to Türkiye. But you can manage all of this if you have a really great economy. But security comes first, economy second. Not vice versa. From an interview on The Rest Is Politics podcast (5/5).

Living in Warsaw is a financial cheat code. San Francisco / Munich: • Rent: $4k • Dinner: $100 • Burn Rate: High Warsaw: • Rent: $1k (Luxury) • Dinner: $30 • Burn Rate: Low It’s not about "saving money." I didn't move here to pinch pennies or hoard cash in a savings account. I moved here to aggressively re-allocate capital. When your personal survival costs drop by 70%, your business risk capacity shoots through the roof. That difference in cost is fuel. Every dollar I don't spend on overpriced rent is a dollar I put directly into: Hiring better talent. Ads to fill the pipeline. Software that automates the heavy lifting. The Opportunity Cost of Location Living here allows me to reinvest 90% of profit back into the agency without flinching. If I were in SF, a slow month means stress about paying bills. In Warsaw, a slow month is just data. This mental clarity is the ultimate competitive advantage. It allows me to make decisions based on 10-year growth, not 30-day survival. Geography is leverage. You are choosing to play a global game with a local handicap. Stop maximizing your status by living in an "expensive" city, and start maximizing your runway by living in an efficient one.

Australia is one of the world’s most important producers of critical raw material. In contrast, Europe is one of the world’s major users. So today, we agreed on four major projects, covering production of rare earths, lithium, and tungsten. And we also agreed to launch negotiations on Australia’s accession to Horizon, Europe’s flagship innovation programme!

A bit annoyed by these "i would only raise a family here in Latam" posts at this point cause they're often all the same: Uruguay 🇺🇾, Buenos Aires 🇦🇷, Asunción 🇵🇾 as the idealized family location Uruguay 🇺🇾 is boring and decadent, it's a welfare state with no grit or dynamism. Buenos Aires 🇦🇷 is great but is also like Montevideo a pink haired with piercing central. Other Argentinian cities like Cordoba 🇦🇷 which are more conservative, super safe, great nature and also is a university city end up being ignored. Asunción 🇵🇾 is safe and family-friendly, but is also quite boring and not for everyone. A few options that should be included: Chile 🇨🇱 has much better infra, amazing nature while having even better healthcare and education -> mostly ignored, can be a stand in for Argentina and outperforms Uruguay and Paraguay in multiple categories Mid-sized Brazilian 🇧🇷 cities ranked high on quality of life + safety like Maringá, Londrina, Curitiba, Blumenau, Jaraguá, Joinville, Vinhedo, Campinas, Jundiaí, Ribeirão Preto, São Carlos, Petrópolis, Teresópolis, Nova Friburgo etc are COMPLETELY ignored Many of these Brazilian cities will have better healthcare and education opportunities for a family compared to Asunción while being similarly safe but way more fun. It's crazy how Maringá which is a good deal smaller than Asunción is a good deal more exciting to live in Also Greater Antioquia / Coffee Region + Santander in Colombia end up being neglected. Bucaramanga metro area has US curriculum schools, multiple good universities, top tier international hospitals, many more parks and insane nature around it 🇨🇴
Graeme Lamperson@graemelamperson

60+ Latin American cities later… & I would ONLY consider raising a family in: Buenos Aires 🇦🇷, Asuncion 🇵🇾 & Punta del Este 🇺🇾. Take that how you will.

I don’t think this is likely to happen. Open borders benefit corporate interests, politicians, and the global agenda. The independence of nations - their sovereignty, culture, identity, and way of life - is being destroyed to make it easier for corporations to access labor and resources. For example, #TheEU 🇪🇺 is currently talking with #Australia 🇦🇺 about a 'freedom of movement' deal. Australians could live and work in the EU, and Europeans could do the same in Australia - possibly creating the first ever intercontinental freedom of movement agreement.
My Latin Life 🌴@MyLatinLife

Looks like Europe's freedom of movement will come to an end sooner than later. Don't expect this open border experiment to last forever. In the future a European probably won't just be able to freely move to another European country. Act accordingly.

It’s crystal clear by now that both the so‑called libertarian @JMilei and the 'global peace' @realDonaldTrump follow the same script. Both sold themselves as saviors. Both turned out to be epic liars. Both have proven to serve corporate power and foreign interests - not their own countries or their people. Trump moves on #Venezuela 🇻🇪 to secure control over its resources. Milei deregulates #Argentina 🇦🇷 to let foreign capital do exactly the same. Different rhetoric. Same playbook.

Imagine countries like Singapore or Switzerland offering citizenship for sale. Their sense of exclusivity, global appeal, and institutional credibility would immediately erode, reducing them to the ranks of countries that lack better ways to generate money than selling their most exclusive asset: citizenship. I think not everything should be for sale.

Yes, I really think so. Portugal never had a CBI program. But that’s beside the point. You are right that the countries that sell citizenship today do it because their other revenue sources are limited. But there’s no reason we shouldn’t have a global market of citizenship where 195+ countries compete for capital and talent. Not saying it will happen any time soon but it would be very good for the consumer (citizens).

@imidaily Do you really think that? CBI programs almost always signal a country’s inability to generate sufficient domestic revenue through traditional means such as taxes, exports, or innovation. Look at Portugal today. It’s a clear example of why this economic model doesn't work.

@wander_investor Anyone pitching Venezuelan real estate to foreigners while glossing over the visa requirement is being reckless, uninformed, or outright dishonest.

An issue nobody seems to discuss regarding Venezuelan real estate is that one needs an investor visa to buy real estate in Venezuela as a non-resident foreigner. And many Venezuelan embassies have refused to hand out such visas for the past two years to real estate investors. Yes, there are various local workarounds but they add a layer of complexity and risk.

@SimonDixonTwitt Trump is a walking liability masquerading as a strongman. An ego so fragile and predictable that anyone with an agenda can play him like a cheap instrument. At this stage of his term, the con isn’t that he’s powerful, it’s that people still believe he is.

🇺🇸 Anyone heard of Scott Bessent? The same guy now installed to do to the U.S. dollar what he and George Soros once did to the not-so-great British pound. It increasingly feels like Trump is speaking only to the least informed segment of America. Surely by now my followers understand what actually backs the dollar. The violence that has underwritten it globally is coming home. And he needs a cover story, one that makes you cheer it on while it happens.

I’m often asked where people should live. It’s a deeply personal decision, shaped by family, culture, freedom, opportunity, and lifestyle. But economically and geopolitically speaking, there is a clear pattern. If you want to see which countries have made the smartest long-term decisions over the past few decades, look at those that built large, well-managed sovereign wealth funds, and then ask what they did differently from your own country. These are the nations with leverage when assets are distressed and currencies are being debased. They tend to be the safest countries in the world, with the highest overall quality of life. No country is perfect. I’ve been to roughly half the countries on Earth, and the pattern holds: countries with sovereign wealth are simply better equipped. The best of them carry little to no debt. From experience, that’s the most reliable framework for deciding where to live. And one more thing: smaller often works better. Community cohesion doesn’t scale well.

As a Danish person, I think Denmark should sell Greenland. US can infuse cash into the development of Greenland that Denmark has no standing chance of matching. It's better for the Greenlandic people. It's likely that US will take it by force, thus negotiating a good deal now will keep the good standing between US and Denmark (which Denmark crucially needs). Denmark and EU could then use that money to fund the Ukraine war instead of picking on EU taxpayers. That would be appropriate.
Orla Joelsen@OJoelsen

Statement from the Prime Minister of Denmark 🇩🇰: “I must say this very clearly to the United States: It makes absolutely no sense to speak of any necessity for the United States to take over Greenland. The United States has no legal basis to annex one of the three countries of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Kingdom of Denmark — and thus Greenland — is a member of NATO and is therefore covered by the Alliance’s collective security guarantee. We already have a defence agreement between the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States that grants the U.S. broad access to Greenland. In addition, the Kingdom has made significant investments in security in the Arctic. I therefore strongly urge the United States to cease its threats against a historically close ally, and against another country and another people who have stated very clearly that they are not for sale.” Mette Frederiksen Prime Minister of Denmark
