@JabroniTV @Koookiiing Why would you want to eliminate food stamps instead of just increasing worker negotiating power or implementing high penalties to companies who exploit the system

@lavacreper12 @Koookiiing You make a very strong case for eliminating the food stamp program and ending the defacto subsidy to employers

@lavacreper12 @Koookiiing Pet stores margin is 5-20% And the idea the margin should just go to the employee is so stupid. The business needs profit to grow and add more employees and expand the economy.

@Humsterr @Koookiiing Sorry i was saying that the 2-5% could be split between every employee over the year by time worked. At a store there is about 100-150 people split between full and part time.

@Break4Soup @Koookiiing If a union asked for more then they were worth they would just not get the contract signed?

@lavacreper12 @Koookiiing that doesn’t mean the cashiers in this scenario are losing out on earned value, what if the unions in sweden are over extracting value relative to their contribution?

@DeepWithARifle @Koookiiing From a humanitarian perspective why do you want your fellow man to suffer, From a utilitarian perspective fed workers are more productive and its cheaper to feed then to hospitalize. The best solution to foodstamps are unions bcs unionized workplaces have a very small foodstamp %

@JabroniTV @Koookiiing Do you believe that companies should be doing stock buybacks while a large margin of employees are on foodstamps?

@Koookiiing @DeepWithARifle do you believe a company should be doing stock buybacks while 15% of their employees are on food stamps?

@Break4Soup @Koookiiing Because cashiers in USA have a lower take home pay compared to high union countries like sweden while sweden also has much better benifits

@lavacreper12 @Koookiiing How do you know value is being extracted from the cashier? Maybe cashier is at rate and that 25% margin is coming from elsewhere in the chain.

@lavacreper12 @Koookiiing Gross profit margin is revenue minus cost of goods sold… it explicitly ignores all of the expenses of running a business other than the cost of goods sold. Kroger’s net profit margin is .69%. Being generous, their operating margin (ignoring taxes etc) is about 3.4%

@GemPoaster @Koookiiing Ok so kroger profit for 2025 2.5B but lets ignore that, they did 7.5 billion of stock buybacks in 2025 and lets say they did 50% less stock buybacks and gave that to workers, thats still a 7k yearly raise and a 14% raise without affecting costs of goods

@lavacreper12 @Koookiiing Profit on an item without consideration to the cost of running the store is useless. Most retail had incredibly low actual margins

@GemPoaster @Koookiiing Kroger had a gross revenue of 147B dollars and a gross profit margin of 23%, if they sacrificed 5% of gross profit and only made a profit of 17% the difference is 7.3B, split between 450K employees is 15k yearly raises which would be a 25%ish raise for most

@lavacreper12 @Koookiiing The profit of an item says nothing about the profit of the business. Nearly meaningless without context.

@Yd4Ro @GRIFTLESS @LilithLovett Iran doesn't have to defeat the US to win they just need to survive and maintain sovereignty longer then the US can withstand the pain of the straight being closed. The only way to open the straight militarily is through taking the boots on the ground and a draft which trump wont

@Yd4Ro @GRIFTLESS @LilithLovett the Hormuz straight is still closed, the US military which spends more then the next 7 combined can't guarantee safe passage through the straight and has to blockade the blockade to stop Iran from making deals with other countries.

@lavacreper12 @LilithLovett Since every nuclear armed country believes in Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) there isn’t a perfect way Short answer: weaken their allies (economically/militarily) and strengthen our allies (economically/militarily) in the region. Control island choke points.
