Yield is DeFi’s strongest product. But the next phase of yield will not be built only on incentives, leverage demand, or crowded trades. It will be built on deeper financial markets. Volatility is one of them. Every market has uncertainty. Options turn that uncertainty into a price, a hedge, a risk transfer, and a yield source.

@layerv_official Do you think simplifying the UX is enough to bring options to mainstream crypto users, or is education still the bigger challenge?”

One thing I found interesting while speaking with the @layerv_official team: They don’t think the biggest challenge is building an options protocol. They think the bigger challenge is making people curious enough to learn options. That completely changes how you think about onboarding. 🧵👇

options are the single best way to capture upside with leverage imagine if the most famous degen trade of all time was executed onchain roaring kitty turned $53k into $34m in 2021 with options what would have happened if he used perps???? he would have gotten cooked liquidated..... even though he was right perps can be good but you can also get hunted and liquidated by 'them' who control markets only to watch your position pump once youre left behind true options products have been the biggest missing piece from onchain trading for a long time @SynapseProtocol is changing that in a huge way the first to add $spcx and now $mu $nvda and more with over $55b in total volume token has retraced -70% from the highs where arthur hayes bought in (lol) time to start accumulating again imo options are the missing piece of onchain $syn is the best way to express the bet

Realized gains this year: $210,062. $92,119 of that came from options. Living in California means I’ll owe roughly $108,027 in taxes. That’s over half of what I earned…gone. Absolutely disgusting. The IRS is robbing us of our hard earned cash… Sad.

This is all you need to time the stock market. Save this. Screenshot it. You will need it. The put/call ratio tells you when everyone is panicking and when everyone is too comfortable. Every single time the put/call ratio spiked above 1.0 since 2000, it marked a generational buying opportunity: - Dot-com bottom (2002) - GFC bottom (2009) - COVID bottom (2020) - Tariff crash (2025) Every single time it collapsed below 0.70, a pullback followed: - Pre-GFC top (2007) - Pre-COVID top (2020) - 2022 top - Pre-tariff top (2025) Right now? The put/call ratio just hit 0.61, the lowest since December 2020. That means options traders are the most bullish they've been in nearly 6 years. Does that mean sell everything? No. But it means this is the time to stay balanced, not all-in into one sector. The best buying opportunities will come soon, stay patient. When everyone is greedy, be cautious. When everyone is fearful, be aggressive.

Have onchain options been one of crypto's most overlooked growth stories? Trading volume has already tripled in recent months, and the number of teams building in the space suggests this market is still in its early innings. Sometimes the biggest signal isn't the noise. It's where builders keep showing up

On a perp, being right about direction is not the same as making money. This is what gets people liquidated over and over: A perp exposes you to the path, not just the destination. Every tick between here and your target can hit your liquidation price. You can nail where ETH closes Friday and still be gone by Wednesday's wick. An option only prices the destination. Cost fixed upfront, and the path in between cannot take you out. That is what LayerV gives a directional trader: the same bet, minus the path risk. On a perp, being right is not enough. You also have to be lucky on the way there.

yeah, visibility is definitely part of it. the other piece is making options feel less like an alien language. most retail users still think in spot or perps. they just want to long, short, or earn on what they already hold. not learn strikes, expiries, and Greeks first. once that mental friction comes down, options are def gonna be big

I don't think enough people are talking about options trading in crypto. Right now, onchain options are doing around $525M in 7-day notional volume, still very tiny compared to perps. Derive is essentially the only major protocol focusing on onchain options, capturing 93% of market share. There's an obvious question of why crypto options haven't reached mainstream yet, despite doing billions of volume in TradFi. I personally think it's a symbiosis of product fit, initial adoption of perps, and simply visibility. I bet most people in crypto didn't even know they exist. They just need more adoption, and I think such listings are a good way to get it.

yp @cobie real question, no rage you took over @baseapp to make people trade onchain. but the same leadership just showed everyone, again, that believing in anything @base-related for more than 24 hours is a mistake how do you onboard people to an app whose culture strategy is making users feel stupid for showing up

I took over the baseapp a few days ago yeah (as well as trading products in Coinbase - the Coinbase app, Advanced trading, etc). I don’t run Base chain. I think that typically CB has been a little bit in an ivory tower and a little bit distant from users, particularly crypto natives. I don’t think I will be able to fix that in a week, or maybe even a month. I can try and capture the voice of ppl onchain more and try and align ppl building things more closely w users. Obviously CB/Base has burned a lot of user goodwill w those users thru some unforced errors, including today. Obviously I could simply not do any of these things and have a nice life instead. Lots of ppl, including og base supporters/trenchers, rly hate base rn - throwing myself into the middle of a hatred pile-on is clearly not the most optimal life choice. I am aware I am setting myself up to be blamed by association. So, I wouldn’t be doing this if I thought it were impossible. I’m going to try and ship stuff that ppl like to use. Maybe ppl will hate what I do w the baseapp too, we will see how it goes.
