@jaysonst This "nightmare" scenario that the World Series could end on an overturned call ignores the flip side that otherwise the WS would have ended on a missed ball/strike call. We've been overturning calls on the bases for a few years now, why are balls/strikes different?

@jbarro @davidshor The point is showing that even given an unworkable solution (most people don't understand/care if it's "workable"), people choose "having a job" over "free money." It's a data point, not a policy suggestion.

Excited to be on Odd Lots to talk about the politics of AI. AI today is less important than it will ever be. Over the past year, AI rose in issue importance faster than any issue we track — it's now more important to voters than climate change, child care, and abortion.

Reminder. @tracyalloway and I are interviewing @davidshor and @ByrneHobart tomorrow about the politics of and prospects for a white collar wipeout. Should be a really fun, uplifting conversation. Come by and say hi

@cnrev @CardPurchaser Honestly have seen plenty of mentions of Arena Club and because I'm so tuned out on repacks haven't looked into them. Maybe they are big enough to have more accountability.

@laytham @CardPurchaser Arena Club shows you every potential card in the various repack levels and allows you to buy insurance for instant repurchase. Floor becomes 70% of purchase. Far better odds than any other thing you can open. If you like to open that is.

Topical with today's news: I've never understood anyone buying a repack. I know there are issues with the return on investment for a hobby box, but I trust Joe Schmoe's Card Repacks much less than the big brands in the hobby (and my trust in them is low) @CardPurchaser

@GlomsCards @CardPurchaser If they're transparent with checklists (and those checklists are verifiable) it might not be as bad. Still not my jam.

@conorsen Admittedly never been to the Inland Empire, but Dallas/Plano/Frisco is the least favorite area of the U.S. I've visited. Too much veneer and sprawl and toll roads; it feels like the most conservative-coded place in the country.

@NateSilver538 Some of us think it's a Really Big Deal that the President is a pedophile AND that the war in Iran is bad. We can be outraged by more than one thing at a time.

There's a war in thr Middle East that 1) is the least popular war ever as of when it was launched and 2) is projected to spike gas prices to $4.50-$5/gallon. It's more important than the 500th news cycle on the fucking Epstein files AND a bigger political liability for Trump.

@ErinPetrey @barrforsenate I think he creates his ads by putting a prompt into an AI model asking for the most pandering, lowest-common-denominator messaging.

@jbarro There are so many unknowns - it's not going to be a linear "90% of the tech sector loses their jobs." DoorDash may become cheaper. People all across the economy will lose and gain. That we don't know "who" is why something like this thought exercise stokes attention.

How does one square this with the proposition in the report that AI is adopted like wildfire because it saves its users so much money? For example, this describes DoorDash collapsing in a way that spreads the surplus to restaurants, workers and diners, not AI firms
Josh Barro tweet media
Trent D. Aragua@yourbrainisbad

@jbarro It’s a scenario where most of that excess value is captured by the AI platforms and their investors. AKA ‘what has been going on for the last 15 years in tech.’

@Sportsfan87889 @CardPurchaser This has been bugging me. I understand why sellers just let it create it, but it's useless for sports cards. I don't need AI to explain why I need a Cam Ward rookie card.

@CardPurchaser question for the eBay purchasers out there… do you see an AI generated, generic description and see the listing as less authentic and lazy? Would you be more likely to pull the trigger if the description was more authentic and personalized? Thanks for the feedback

@conorsen This made me think (I am a moon-landing skepticist, which has caused so many "what?" conversations from acquaintances). Maybe it's a function of the '80s being devoid of big rah-rah moments? As a GenX'er, I can tell you life feels like one debacle after another.

As time passes what’s the event from the 1980’s that people won’t believe, similar to how some people don’t believe the moon landing?
