@Brettdasovic Cameron didn't have a lot to work with for the first film and it's amazing what he accomplished. The first film is my favorite as well.

Rewatched Terminator 1 & 2 this weekend. I still like Terminator 1 more. The music is unsettling and turns the movie into a horrific fever dream. On paper T2 should be my favorite. It is a more of a straight-up action film. Part 1 is more survival horror and not my genre at all. The authentic mid 80's cityscape setting grabs me more visually. Officers carrying revolvers rather than semi automatics. The budget was constrained. The police vehicles had magnetic logos rather than painted. The visuals hold up strong until the Arnie skinsuit has been shed from the terminator. Practical effects and blood squibs. T1 brings more emotion to life through story and tension. Linda Hamilton brings the love, sadness, terror, and exhaustion that Sarah feels to life.
