This project is fully backed by decades of science that show how critical this connection will be for wildlife and keeping drivers safe.   FACT: The cost estimate held until last year when inflation – in part driven by the federal administration’s tariffs – increased construction costs. The total price tag increase of 23% is still vastly lower than the 67% avg increase in highway construction costs nationally over the same time, per USDOT. FACT: The timeline has shifted by just one year largely due to severe weather. With completion expected this year, five years of work is far from a “boondoggle.”

This freeway project, grounded in decades of research, restores a critical wildlife corridor and reduces DEADLY collisions on one of the busiest highways in the country — protecting both drivers and animals. Oh the joy! My house finches have returned again this year to nest in my hanging planters. I purposely did not pull out the dead flowers in case they returned. Fresh seasonal flowers after their kids are grown. Last year they raised two broods!

Dearest #RubyBridges: Thank you. >>> 65 years ago today, 4 federal marshals escorted 6-year-old Ruby Bridges to her 1st day of school (1st grade), as the 1st Black student to attend previously all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans, Louisiana. And today, there are legislators and school districts seeking to ban teaching on Ruby Bridges under the guise of banning “wokeness.” We have to stand so that they don’t whitewash U.S. and world history.

Today was a largely celebratory day at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County celebrating their new exhibit, Fierce Felines. Yet as I walked through the P-22 exhibit, I got truly saddened. I remember when this exhibit got designed, when P-22 was in his prime. I miss his magnificent self. To see the RIP references on his exhibit now is difficult. Yet to also see some of the displays showing how far we have come-from a proposed wildlife crossing to an actual one—is so inspiring. P-22 has left quite a legacy!
