Brian Armstrong explains how he built Coinbase on nights and weekends while working at Airbnb Brian first advises those who are currently employed to not build your project on company hours or on your company laptop: “If you build it on company time or on the company hardware, the company probably owns the IP.” Then he describes his schedule for working on Coinbase while still working full-time at Airbnb. “I would often work [at Airbnb] until 7pm. I’d come home, eat dinner, and then I would work from 8pm to midnight. I would do that maybe 3-4 days a week on weekdays. And then on the weekend I’d work Sunday afternoon for 7-8 hours.” Brian did this consistently for about a year and a half until Coinbase was far enough along for him to get seed funding from Y Combinator. “It sucked. I mean I was tired after the full day of work [at Airbnb]. But this is where determination comes in… At that moment in time, I was in my late 20s, and I was like, ‘I really want to try to build something important in the world.’” When asked how he maintained friendships during this time, Brian replies: “I was pretty intense about it. I would say I sacrificed friendships for it. It’s not like I was just never responding to people, but I’ve seen this happen to various people. They get to a certain point in their life. Sometimes they turn a certain age where they thought they would have more done by then or maybe someone in their family passes away and they’re like, Oh my god, time is finite. It’s precious. And something happens where they’re like, ‘I’m going to get this done, no matter the cost.’” Brian tells those out there who might be in a similar situation: “Go hard at it. Finish your book. Launch your thing. Just start doing stuff - and even if you don’t know what to do, just do anything, because action will produce information and it’ll help you get to the right thing.” Video source: @StevenBartlett (2022)

It’s certainly not as serious as Legal - but we’re seeing this in all facets of everything from Construction to the music and film Industries (ie marketing, pitches, brand stories, contract proposals etc). And the problem is that people putting stuff out are not just NOT writing, they’re also NOT reading. I don’t care what profession you work in, take the time to read what you receive and what you send out.

We hired a contractor to support with a specialized area of law recently. He sent me some work product. Naturally, I checked it against the document it was related to. I might not know the area of law but I can read. “You referenced Section 6.02 but that provision relates to tax. I don’t see the mechanic you’re referring to. Can you clarify?” His response: “Ah yes, that was purely illustrative. Blah blah blah…” It quickly became clear what was going on. I had to tell my team the following emphatically: “If you use AI and you don’t check its work, you’re fired. No second chances.” We’re seeing it play out across the economy right now from hallucinated cases in litigation and beyond. Folks are letting AI lower their standards instead of elevating them. Outputs getting faster without anyone there to check them is a recipe for disaster.

Dakota Johnson failed an audition because she was deemed "cocky" and full of herself for shaking hands with everyone in the room. “I had an audition once, and it was a callback, and I went into the room, and I shook everyone’s hand and introduced myself. Then I did the scene, and I left. The feedback I got was that because I had gone and introduced myself and shook everyone’s hand is that I was pompous. That I was schmoozing, and I was full of myself, and I was like: ‘What?’ I didn’t get the job because they said that I was being cocky, but I just had manners… It was pretty crazy.” (via Hits Radio) variety.com/2026/film/news…

@hthieblot Building QC for high stakes comms using AI orchestration. Running it manually first, looking for teams and creators to test it: x.com/learningproduc…

@nntaleb @DrCirillo This is the way. After I write a piece, I like to run it through multiple ai for stress testing (using grok, my customized gpt and claude). AI orchestration can enhance writing and publishing despite what doomers say: learningproducers.com/blog/combat-wr…

You can’t just “have an AI department” and think your company is going to become AI native. I hear this constantly from big companies. It’s the laziest possible approach and it will never work. Having an AI department at this point is like having an “internet department” in 2003. It shows that you think that this is a function, not the foundation of your work. You don’t need a team of 10 people “exploring use cases.” I literally heard this from a company last week, and they’ve been exploring use cases for over a year with nothing actually built. Instead, you need your entire team, every single employee thinking “how can AI help me do this better.” If you have a President’s Club for your top sales rep but nothing for the employee who used AI to automate a workflow that saved the company $1M, you’re just not serious about the future. Stop building AI departments. Start building AI cultures.

To High School Administrators: if you are not actively pivoting your school’s curriculum towards “AI-first” and helping kids develop as entrepreneurs rather then employees, you’re doing them a major disservice. The social contract is vaporizing.

A fat man knows he is fat. He does not delude himself into thinking otherwise. He accepts it and often does not even mind being identified with it. A fat woman, on the other hand, is anything but that. She will refuse to see herself as fat and will be deeply offended should anyone address her as such. In fact, if you attempt to tell her she is fat, she will take offense and quickly label it body shaming, as though her weight were an injustice inflicted upon her rather than a condition she helped create.

Notice how in this "fat" conversation no one is talking about fat men as much
