The burden should not lie on the noob to transact privately, the blockchain he chooses to use should do that work for him. This is hardly a radical take. Hours of technical research should not be a prerequisite to safely participate in the network.

@JustinSandefur Horrible. No matter how bullish you are on crypto this is objectively a terrible use of energy

Weird electricity-and-development fact of the day: Ethiopia's new GERD dam more than doubled the country's installed generation capacity. Result: a new crypto mining industry now absorbs 30% of national electricity demand.

@fluffypony @XMRVoid That makes sense, how often if at all do you worry about corporate takeover or similar issues due to not having copyleft?

There are several reasons to choose MIT or BSD permissive licenses: 1. You can use the code in closed-source applications in mobile app stores. GPL is incompatible with Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store ToS - VLC and GNU Go got pulled for this reason. VLC had to relicense the app as MPL 2.0 instead of GPL. Apple and Google generally don't take aggressive action, but it's still a concern. 2. Companies are often scared to use GPL code because of the burden it imposes. If it's MIT / BSD then they will actually use your code instead of rewriting it from scratch to avoid GPL legal risk. 3. They're super easy to combine with almost any license, including GPL. The opposite isn't true: GPL conflicts even internally, such that GPLv2 conflicts with GPLv3, GPL conflicts with both AGPL and LGPL, etc. 4. They're super simple; the BSD 2-clause license is 101 words. GPLv3 is 2 242 words. Less legalese = fewer misunderstandings, easier compliance, lower barrier for contributors.

@fluffypony @XMRVoid Awesome, any reason for the MIT license instead of a copyleft one?

github.com/grease-xmr/gre… When this is “done” we will have temporal payments on an L2 on top of Monero, which settles privately back to Monero as the base layer. This will allow for instant, hyper scalable p2p payments that even the most powerful adversary won’t be able to observe, all without losing the security of Monero’s PoW L1💪🏼

Week 1 of tax revolt, we already have our first politician pretending to lead. The only thing that had to change, was you. This politician and the thousands to follow, are irrelevant. Your willingness to disobey them is the only thing that will ever truly matter.
Casey Putsch@CaseyPutsch

Your home is your property. You work like hell for 30 years to pay down your mortgage. So why are you paying taxes on something you own? As Governor, I’ll abolish property taxes immediately. In my Ohio, you own your home. Not the State. No questions asked.

The problem isn’t cryptocurrency ATMs. The problem is people like horny Gilbert, 72, who thinks some 20 year old e-girl he met on WhatsApp is going to give him a blowjob if he sends her $10,000 so she can escape Novosibirsk. Stop blaming tools for the shortcomings of a society that has learned to be perpetually babied. Your technological illiteracy is not everyone else’s problem.

Monerovan putting in work today at a farmer's market in LA. Let's see who wants a demo of @cakewallet @xmrbazaar @beefinitiative and @monero_merchant. I have a potential rancher to onboard that was very receptive to participating in the new privacy-focused circular economy. I saw the dots connecting in her eyes. Monero makes sense considering the modern challenges of being a seller. If you'd buy grassfed/finished beef, bison, lamb, duck, rabbit, chicken, turkey, tallow, broth, or sausages from this rancher with $XMR, let them know with likes/comments/reposts and I'll show them the engagement! I have their food many times and it's freaking awesome! 🥩

THAT’S IT? This is what 20 years’ worth of spent nuclear fuel looks like safely stored at the former Maine Yankee nuclear plant. The plant generated 119 billion kilowatt hours of reliable power from 1972-1996, which is enough to power half a million homes each year.

Centralized mining is threatened most by this proposal. Most interesting is the possible Denial of Service this creates for centralized pools. I forsee pools freezing new connections or requiring registrations, otherwise being vulnerable to bandwidth draining attacks.
