@shannabisX @ronrule Fine, make it a $20 salad and a $100 steak. Same scenario. Why is it no one can ever answer this simple scenario. The pro tip people just resort to a “you’re a cheap bastard” argument.

Name a restaurant that you can get a $20 steak and $100 steak at? It literally doesn't exist. If you're in a restaurant that has $100 steaks and you can't afford a 20% tip then you shouldn't be there. Most people that do spend that much on a steak know how to tip. Usually the difference in tab means 1 table is four or five people and another table is one person. It goes by the check. Who do you know that's going to sit alone by themselves eating $100 steak? Your post is silly because it's not based upon reality.

Percentages make no sense for tipping. I go to a restaurant and order a $20 steak. Guy at the table next to me orders a $100 steak. If I tip $5 I’m considered a great tipper, but he’s expected to tip at least $20. Why? The server literally did the same amount of work!

The worse thing to happen to the greatest game which is baseball is WAR. The absolute worse , to judge players on these metrics ,I will never be a fan sorry. So many great ball players I’ve watched , they might have lower war but was much better than a lot I see with a high war.

Like many things, it's only a surprise that it took 100+ years for a team to figure this out. They'll have to change the Infield Fly rule to apply to when there is one out. Can't let the defense choose their runner.
Christina De Nicola@CDeNicola13

#Marlins practiced this a bunch during Spring Training. It's a way to get rid of a speedier runner on the basepaths and/or see if the batter is caught napping and not running the play out.

@Math_files The problem with the question, besides it being stupid, is that the difference in pages read is 75. If you want the student to make a reasonable guess, then why put the exact answer? The way it’s asked, it’s reasonable to explain with actual math.

@GLabsPlus @Math_files For starters it’s stupid. It’s a simple basic math problem. Second, if it’s a must that you estimate, wouldn’t it make more sense to round 28 to 30 and 103 to 105, since that’s how most people do this sort of thing in their head.

@Math_files Math professor here. Looks like the student got punished for being better at math than the teacher expected. The question doesn't ask to estimate. It asks if 75 is a reasonable answer. In any case, here's how I would estimate the difference: 28 ≈ 25 103 ≈ 100 100 - 25 = 75

@brooke_seward @MDSportsblog This seems to be a distinction without a difference. If you’re adjusting, you’re learning. I would say the vast majority of players that end up being good hitters, struggled initially in the majors. If you want to argue that he should have shown improvement by now I would agree.

@ledzepp8 @MDSportsblog You don’t learn to hit major league pitching. There is an adjustment period but you either can or can’t. Cowser and Mayo can’t. They can hit AAA pitching because the majority of those guys aren’t good enough to make the majors.

@noahgittell The point of ABS was actually to stop balls being called 2 feet out of the zone being called a strike, but go off king

@Bmac0507 @xan_desanctis Any part of the ball hitting the zone is a strike. Always has been. Just like any part of the ball hitting the foul line is a fair ball.

@xan_desanctis My gripe with abs isn't that being called a ball it's the ones where a tiny sliver of the ball hit the edge of the zone and are called a strike

I get why people want ABS, and I’m likely in the minority here, but I much preferred the experience of watching baseball before the replay/challenge era, human error notwithstanding. Using tech to optimize everything is boring.
Rob Friedman@PitchingNinja

Umpire incompetence or a Rulebook/ABS Mismatch issue? 🤔 This pitch may have been both: -a Strike according the rulebook strike zone (3 dimensional/starting at the front of the plate), and -a Ball, according to ABS (2 dimensional/measured at the middle of the plate).
