Welcome to Eastbourne… is this really the first impression we want? This weekend, people travelling in and out of Eastbourne railway station were being hassled while entering and leaving, with others forced to avoid broken wine bottles and piles of rubbish around the station area. What should be a welcoming gateway to our town instead felt intimidating and unsafe for many. Some residents and visitors are now actively walking around to the other side of the station just to avoid being harassed and to feel safe. The Eastbourne Homelessness Taskforce, which was created to tackle exactly these kinds of issues, has so far achieved very little on the ground. The situation is clearly getting worse, not better. This isn’t about blaming vulnerable people — it’s about proper support, enforcement where needed, and keeping public spaces safe for everyone. We need action, not just committees and statements. When will residents and visitors start to see real change? @JoshBabarinde @EastbourneBC
