The answer to that question has to first form around "Do you have kids?" I would suggest the health and happiness of children oversee every choice made around marriage including ending it. Divorce is terrible for children. My sister's X decided to have affairs (we don't know how many at this point). He got caught and it was bad. Situation was my sister had to divorce him as he was raiding the pension plans to pay for the women he was dating. The older kids were in high school daughters 18 and 15 and a boy 12 at the time. The two daughters were old enough to make their own minds up and did not want anything to do with their father but the boy legally could not and had to go with him when he had custody. My sister became very lenient in raising the boy, afraid if she was too harsh on him that he would do live with his father. This ended up affecting the kid. As his uncle, I and my Dad had to step in to try and help the boy. The entire divorce cost us double because it was so emotional. We had to track down every account, some of which was not his money and figure out how much he embezzled. It was a nightmare. Afterword it took a toll on the kids. This was something they had to live through. Getting a divorce is not as easy as one would think if there are kids involved. It is never good for the kids IMHO even if it is necessary. If the lawyers you hire see that there will be a nasty fight they will up their fee. Whatever you do try to stay on good terms with your X during the divorce and try to segregate things amicably. Otherwise it gets bad.

My wife had a months-long affair with someone from work. I found out by accident, not through honesty. Yesterday I decided not to forgive her. I asked for a divorce without negotiation. Her family says I should try, that “we all make mistakes.” What they don't say is that some mistakes are repeated for months with full awareness. I'm not going to rebuild something that was broken by long-standing decisions. Love also has dignity.
