Giant corporations "doing shady lobbyism" doesn't mean anything without a corrupt state to lobby. Holding a state accountable is fiction when the state has the monopoly on force. What are you going to do, vote them out of office? They count the votes. They decide who can run. And when they don't like a party, they declare them illegitimate and take them off the ballot. Similarly, you can hold giant corporations accountable by not doing business with them. Don't like their products? Don't buy them. Unless, of course, they're the only game in town providing electricity, internet access, or fresh water. They're both boots, and you shouldn't lick either of them. That's why the people need a back stop against the state's monopoly on force. Simply having it changes the tone of the milieu they operate in. The state's monopoly on force needs to be revocable. Both the state and the private sector are answerable to the people. The state is the people's means to keeping the private sector answerable. The freedom to fabricate, keep, and bear arms, and to speak freely is the people's means to keeping the state answerable.

this absolutely baffles me. why are so many linux distros basically just caving on adding age verification, and closing off discussion on whether this is a good idea or not. Devuan is looking like a good contender to get around this.

@realPaulMJ @SheepCommander2 @jephfoust We have a legitimate claim to try and control the state because they are employees of the people. we can hold them accountable, we cant hold gigant corporation doing shady lobbyism accountable without a state.

They hate age verification but they hate the right even more, and they love the state. Therefore, they will defend age verification and call anyone who opposes it pedophiles because the libertarian right opposes it and the state is for it. Tomorrow, when it's no longer expedient to defend it, they will stop defending it, and pretend they never did.
