From 1999 to 2003, it was a cult film. 2004-2014, it was universally considered a masterpiece 2015-2025, it becomes trendy to dismiss Fight Club as a “film bro”/incel movie that’s not actually that deep and if you think it’s deep it’s because you think Tyler Durden’s cool 2026, it’s a cult film again The irony is what gets me. The people who dismiss Fight Club usually do so out of a sense of superiority, like “Those wannabes think it’s deep but they just don’t understand cinema.” Except if you’re dismissing the thematic depth and film artistry of Fight Club, you’re actually the one who doesn’t understand cinema. Dislike Fight Club all you want. It won’t be for everyone and everyone is entitled to not like a movie. But don’t try to seriously argue it’s objectively lacking/lackluster/not deep/not filmic. That’s like saying “It’s actually easy to film a movie like Apocalypse Now. No one should be impressed by its production value.” Or “Citizen Kane has nothing interesting to say, it’s just all cinematography.”
