The Aloes Estate, Polokwane.

MUKAMUNYA, LUSAKA, ZAMBIA. A striking feature of the home is its entrance canopy, supported by a load-bearing structure that has been expertly carved from local rock into an abstract sculptural form by a renowned Zambian stone mason.

Characterised by clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. The central feature is a large, continuous skylight that follows the slope of the roof, seamlessly transitioning into a vertical window that extends down one side of the house. The Aloes Estate, Polokwane.

At exactly 15:46, the Sun casts a shadow that runs parallel to the ceiling angle. A win in both theoretical and experimental design. Work in progress…

Tinted windows on a house can limit natural light, making interiors darker. Additionally, they may hinder outside views and potentially affect the aesthetic appeal of the property. Consider the impact on both light and visual aspects before opting for tinted windows. My Design philosophy is; Light, Space and Life.

At first glance, the building presents a captivating interplay of textures. The coarse, yet precise, character of the precast concrete panels provides a robust counterpoint to the tactile, grainy feel of the wood. These concrete panels not only serve as a testament to the durability and solidity of the structure but also offer an ever-changing canvas for the interplay of shadows throughout the day.

@askash Lol legend has it that the engineer killed himself after he found out the bridge would not align when the two sides connect. That’s the story I heard 🤣🤣🤣

Ever wondered why for over 45 years, Cape Town has an unfinished freeway as you enter the city?🌉🏗️ The unfinished Foreshore Freeway Bridge in Cape Town has been standing incomplete since 1977. Conversations for the bridge being built in the first place began in the 1940’s in order to prepare for a potential traffic boom. Construction started in the 1970’s and ended in 1977. While there are plenty of rumours as to why the bridge was never complete, such as the shopkeeper who would not sell his shop to make way for the flyover, the truth behind the real reason for not being built is much more boring. The project ran out of funds and the freeway was no longer a priority. To date, The City of Cape Town has no active plans to finish the freeway. Fun fact: the unfinished bridge has featured in plenty of TV adverts and shows. The most iconic shows to feature the bridge are Black Mirror and Fear Factor.
