Just like the Olympics, the World Cup is doomed for irrelevance. I don’t know anyone remotely excited about this World Cup, I have been huge on World Cups since I’ve been young, but I’m completely opting out of this coming one. Between the fact that the most passionate fans won’t be able to attend, the fact that American stadiums are in some of the worst suburban locations imaginable, and the whole Gun/ICE issue, it’s probably going to be a massive mess.

@SwipaCam We need CB and Cam to work in concert to try to reproduce this level of perimeter containment to go all the way again. KCP's decline in the 24 playoffs was an underrated part of why we didn't repeat

Lebron is one of the fakest most contrived athletes to ever to do. This man was on a golf course, in his code switching voice (that he never talks in) in front of his white friends talking trash about blackest city in Tennessee and how they need to move the Grizzlies. We know Lebron doesn't give a damn about Nascar, Vanderbilt nor Hockey but somehow that's the selling point for moving the team to Nashville for him. There's nothing authentic about this man at all from pretending to read Malcolm X to lying about predicting Kobe's 81 point game and it's why it's always been very difficult for me to truly be a fan of him despite how amazing he is on the court.

Your Netflix subscription helped pay for a $469 million deal for two Knives Out sequels. The original movie cost $40 million to make. Daniel Craig alone got $100 million. Every payday on this list traces back to one thing: COVID killed theaters, and streaming companies panicked. In old Hollywood, actors took a smaller salary upfront and earned a cut of ticket sales. If the movie blew up, that is where the real money came from. Robert Downey Jr. reportedly made $75 million from one Avengers movie through that system. Streaming torched it. When Netflix puts a film straight on their app, there are no ticket sales to split. So actors started demanding all the money upfront. And during 2021, Netflix, Amazon, and Apple were in a bidding war to sign up subscribers, which meant they would pay almost anything. Netflix alone spent $17.5 billion on content that year. They dropped $200 million on Red Notice and another $200 million on The Gray Man. Both got mediocre reviews. Did not matter. Red Notice pulled 364 million hours of viewing in its first month. Scarlett Johansson saw this coming early. She sued Disney in 2021 after they released Black Widow on Disney+ the same day it hit theaters, wiping out her ticket-sales bonus. She reportedly settled for $40 million on top of her $20 million salary. After that lawsuit, every agent in Hollywood had the playbook: no box office means pay me now. Then it collapsed. Netflix lost paying customers for the first time in ten years. Stock cratered 51% in 2022. Hollywood’s actors went on strike for 148 days in 2023, partly because everyday working actors were getting pennies in streaming payments while the names on this list pulled in eight figures. LA lost 42,000 film jobs in two years after that. Filming in the city dropped 22% in early 2025. And now Netflix is asking stars to take 20 to 30 percent less upfront in exchange for bonuses based on how many people actually watch. Which is the old ticket-sales bonus, rebuilt for streaming. I think that is kind of wild. The spending spree that created this list lasted about 18 months, burned through tens of billions, rewired how actors get paid, triggered the longest strike in Hollywood history, and now the industry is quietly going back to something that looks a lot like the system it blew up. Netflix has 325 million subscribers and pulls in $45 billion a year. The bet paid off for them. For everyone else in Hollywood, the math is less clear.

If Mary Norwood had won that election, Atlanta would be up there with Miami and Dallas as the preeminent Sun Belt markets. Atlanta is still recovering from Keisha’s Reign of Error almost 5 years after she quit and it’ll be before 2030 before they recover the squandered momentum
Eric Cunningham@decunningham2

People forget that Bottoms nearly lost the 2017 Atlanta mayoral race to a conservative that later tried to help Trump overturn the 2020 election. She’s never been an especially strong candidate.

@bloomkral yes I agree I don’t think he’s worth 2 lebrons at the same age although he is clearly better in my opinion. EPM does not grade as well in the 2000s.
shms@easymoneyshms

@isojay914 to be fair they are close amongst other metrics, such as 3-year RAPM age 20-22, and xRAPM in age 22 seasons

wembanyama is closing in on 9 EPM in his 3rd year in the NBA at age 22, lebron james for reference at the equivalent age in 2007 was +4.7. if wemby is this good early on, he needs really only 14-15 seasons to surpass LeBrons career value

One thing which I didn't understand about Dhurandhar is why is the Protagonist shown to be from Pathankot district specifically? It's probably the least stereotypically Sikh district of Punjab. Almost 90% of Pathankot is Hindu.

@frontierindica I just finished the movie, honestly so cheesy cringefest lmfao. Only good part was the first killing sequence, storeyed building gun fights are always good. Very final destinationesque death sequences. Ending emo was okay. Rest was too bollywoody for me.
