I'm gutted that we didn't get the numbers today to defeat the government’s cruel proposals on cutting disability supports. However, the debate towards the end was farcical. Chaos reigned and even the Minister responding at the end was unsure of what it was that he was actually agreeing to or had proposed. It was an unedifying spectre and entirely unbefitting of those individuals that we were trying to put at the heart of this debate. But there were those of us who tried to give dignity, give voice and honour their lived experience and for that, I am grateful. So, unfortunately the Bill passed Second Reading and the government are now attempting to ram this through in a rush next week. But many, many questions remain and I will again be voting against it. I hope others find their self respect, stand up for the most vulnerable and vote against this shambles of a Bill. It is always a pleasure to represent you, the people of Lagan Valley in this, the mother of Parliaments.

The Welfare Reform Bill is set to create an abandoned generation of young people with disabilities and life limiting conditions. Access to work, education and a full life would all become further out of reach for many. That is unacceptable. @uuponline @UUPWestminster
