Just sent money to a friend with @tempo. (Try it at wallet.tempo.xyz) Truly instantaneous blockchains are the most surprise-and-delight product experience since Waymo.

Excited to share I’m joining the GTM team at @tempo to help accelerate global adoption. Today is also a big day — we shipped Tempo mainnet and MPP (Machine Payments Protocol), the open protocol for machine-to-machine payments. Come build on Tempo… DM to learn more

@gakonst Here's the one-liner if you're hungry: ``` tempo request -X GET "@test.com&pickupWindowId=6e274204-b216-4d02-9263-47b3e3dd95bc" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">agents.prospectbutcher.shop/buy/pbc-roast-…" ```

@TrustlessState We were at a Tempo hackathon where @liamihorne and @gakonst built the first version of our MPP service and it just worked I had also found that giving my agent access to my aws cli (with billing) made projects way easier, so I was excited to get that for ALL services

@dwr Huh, fascinating. I'm going to have to rip out what I've already built and start over I guess!

MPP differs from other machine payment protocols in that it is payment-rail agnostic and extensible from day one. Tempo developed the initial stablecoin payment method. Stripe added support for its range of payment methods. Visa extended the protocol to enable broader card support. Lightspark expanded the protocol to support the Lightning Network.

Agent payments will soon overtake human payments on the internet. The Machine Payments Protocol (@mpp) is a new open standard co-authored by @stripe and @tempo. It’s designed to be extensible and payment-method agnostic, already supporting stablecoins, cards, and more.

@NitanshuL That's the next big frontier for sure, right now it just does payments over HTTP, but there is for sure an identity layer to be created here

@liamihorne noice! does MPP gives a identity as well to the agents ? as i believe in encrypted network tokens you might wanna bind tokens to agent identity or else other agents might try extract tokens and spend on their behalf

We're planning on enshrining channels into Tempo soon, which will unlock even more performance And beyond channels, there are so many ideas from a decade of working on Ethereum scaling that we’re finally going to realize with Tempo, this is just the first If you want to work directly with me on bringing these ideas to life, email me at liam@tempo.xyz

Under the hood, MPP services return HTTP 402 Payment Required to indicate that a resource requires payment for access. It's maximally designed in accordance with internet standards, and we've even submitted it for review by the IETF Spec: paymentauth.org/draft-httpauth…

I’ve spent most of my career scaling payments. From 2017-2021, we poured years into building state channels on Ethereum The tech worked, but nobody used it. People used blockchains for trading tokens, not for making payments, and that's why L2s had to come first Agents are the users we were waiting for, and that's why we're stewarding the launch of the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) with channels baked in

I'm a bit late but it's so clear that blockchains are built for agents. Haven't had a product experience this magical since trying Compound + MakerDAI for the first time in 2018
