@ramit Every married couple HAS a prenup - the one you designed together, or the default state laws designed for you. Most never realize they’re operating under someone else’s plan for the future until it’s too late. The prenup conversation is about transparency, respect, clarity.

Article on prenups in @NewYorker written with a bizarre snarky tone, as if millennials are getting prenups simply because it's cool & aspirational Prenups make sense for a small group of people: Where one/both have substantial pre-marital assets Millennials are old enough to have these! My wife and I got a prenup. It took many months of conversation between us and lawyers. It got really hard. We went to see a therapist, who helped us unlock better communication. We both agreed we wanted to share more of what we went through -- especially because this is such a taboo topic -- which is why we've spoken publicly about our prenup multiple times In America culture, the idea of a prenup is a wealthy man being chauffeured in his limo, throwing out a sheaf of papers and saying, "SIGN THIS!" But that's not how prenups actually work. That's just an idea popularized in movies and TV If one partner has a business, or a large portfolio, or an inheritance, or student loans, it may make sense to sign a prenup. You're deciding what might happen in the unfortunate case you separate. In essence, you're deciding what to do at your best so you don't have to decide at your worst In fact, with urban women earning more than men in their 20s, increasingly women are requesting prenups! In most other parts of life, we intuitively understand the need for contracts & planning. But in the Disney-ified American romantic ideal of marriage, we still find the idea of a prenup to be off-putting, even revolting. If you qualify for a prenup, it's already an overwhelming and confusing process. For one of the most taboo topics in personal finance, prenups don't deserve this kind of snarky article.

This morning, MarketWatch featured our data at @ThisFirst revealing that women now represent 50% of our prenup clients in opposite-sex marriages, completely flipping decades of tradition where men held the financial power and drove these conversations. As I shared with MarketWatch: “It’s a massive generational shift.” While Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement sparked this week’s surge in prenup chatter (and some of the funniest memes of 2025 so far), the real story is about Millennial women, economic empowerment, and a more practical approach to marriage. If you get married but don't have a prenup, what about a vesting schedule? 5 years, no cliff? Sounds great

@ThisFirst is lucky to have the support of some of the best operators and consumer investors in the business who believe that everyone should have access to justice

Best deals always come this way: Someone in the Karman network (@expa) makes an intro. This one was to @libbylh. Blown away by her background (Ex-Google, Facebook (Sheryl's first Chief of Staff!), SoFi VP.) and her big idea with First: Transforming family law by making prenups accessible, affordable, and FAST. We invested alongside EXPA and CleoCapital because we love to see operators with deep domain expertise solving high-value problems.

🚨 New @a16z investment thesis: AI x parenting Raising kids is one of our most challenging and important jobs. Every parent needs support sometimes - but many can't access it because it's too inexpensive or inaccessible. AI changes this. What we're seeing 👇
