2 years ago, I missed out on being elected in my home ward in Sunderland. The Conservatives ran a really nasty campaign and beat us by just 145 votes. It's hard to put into words how good it feels today knowing that ward now has 3 fantastic Liberal Democrat councillors 🔶❤️

Across Sunderland, Liberal Democrats are the opposition to Reform and we will be holding their feet to fire to make sure the new council keeps their promises to local people.

History will show Keir Starmer’s approach to Trump was one of his worst mistakes, making Britain poorer and less secure. We need more than vague promises. We need real action, starting with a new customs union with Europe.

The Green Party has admitted that its leader Zack Polanski has, until recently, been living on a houseboat in London and may have failed to pay council tax. Dan Neidle, founder of Tax Policy Associates, says he'd like to see an 'explanation' of what happened. A party spokesperson said Mr Polanski had 'taken steps to pay any council tax he may be found to owe' and 'apologised sincerely for the unintentional mistake'.
