@GMMeyer @LinkofSunshine No democracy is immune to populism but I think people who claimed that America’s system is uniquely robust and that the checks and balances are strong enough to keep populist presidents in check *vastly* underestimated just how powerful populism would end up being in America

@GMMeyer @LinkofSunshine America’s got problems with disenfranchisement, gerrymandering, the electoral college allowing presidents to win with ~20% of the popular vote, lobbying problems etc etc
And all the other institutions are at the mercy of a corruptible, heavily politicized Supreme Court

@RepEpstein @number_pizza111 If a baby can be delivered with minimal risk to the mother (in no way guaranteed) however, like by C-section, I think that should always be the preferred option over terminating the pregnancy. I think it would be difficult to get a significant portion of people to think otherwise

@RepEpstein @number_pizza111 The most persuasive argument I’ve heard when it comes to people who don’t get bodily autonomy is that you can’t be compelled to donate an organ to save someone else’s life. Carrying to term instead of aborting ’saves a life’ but carries huge risk and shouldn’t be compelled by law
