The latest green-up forecast courtesy of Rick Thoman from ACCAP shows a high chance of green-up to occur this week. Green-up is the sprouting of the birch and aspen leaves in the spring. It usually occurs abruptly with hillsides "greening" up in just a day or two. #akwx

As of 3:30 PM, we have officially declared green-up here at the NWS Office. The birch and aspen trees on Chena Ridge have sprouted their leaves. With dry conditions and temperatures in the 60s expected for the weekend, there will time for anyone to enjoy the leaves! #akwx
