@DC_PCC Oh, you mean like giving a totally false narrative to the media on an ongoing live murder investigation, great work …

@mwilliamsthomas @AJ01396773 You maybe a so called investigator but a year as a detective in the Met within a ten year career hardly qualifies you to even consider yourself as a DETECTIVE. This case shouldn’t be used to further your media career or highlight your profile, it’s unwarranted and totally crass.

@AJ01396773 So your annoyed and rude because I have not updated you . I have fully updated the family and my post last night explains the situation. There is need for some sensitivity here and shame that you think you have a right to know everything and I am here just to keep you informed.

Update : Although the police search in the mountains and around Masca has concluded, the police investigation into Jay Slater’s disappearance remains ongoing . In regard to our investigation we have been able to speak to important witnesses and now have a very detailed picture of Jays movements over 16 & 17th along with important background information . We still have a number of outstanding actions , but have given the family a preliminary breakdown of findings . In light of the police search ending . I have suggested the family should use the GoFundMe money to continue the search using experts in searching . I would appeal again, if you have any ‘direct information’ having spoken to Jay or anyone that was with him over night 16/17th and have not yet been in contact please do so .”

@MaggieOliverUK @Channel4 I actually think that if senior officers involved within the professional standards unit were fully empowered dismiss then it would be more effective. Yes, It’s still the police marking their own homework but could anyone do it better, IOPC certainly doesn’t!

I had to post this again after I’d watched the @Channel4 programme To Catch a Copper It did everything to show why I repeatedly say that #police so called Professional Standards are entirely unfit for purpose. It truly is police marking their own homework and holds no one truly to account. And I think anyone who has watched this will understand exactly why I say what I say, repeatedly!! We need to throw it all out and start totally from scratch. Only then will we see real change and real accountability!!
Maggie Oliver@MaggieOliverUK

I have absolutely not one shred of doubt that if this documentary team have shown the full “unvarnished” truth, the public will have their eyes well and truly opened as mine have been!! #police complaints systems are completely and utterly unfit for purpose. Police marking their own homework, every attempt made to hide the shocking truth that in reality, they are in 99% of cases beyond accountability, and hence do not fear any real repercussions. I see cases like this @TMOFCharity every day, and it makes me both incandescent with rage as well as very very sad! And as I keep repeatedly calling for, we urgently need an INDEPENDENT system which scrutinises from outside the organisation. And sadly as it stands now, the IOPC are not that body as they don’t have any powers to demand anything. Even though I know watching this programme will “trigger” me and remind me of all the cases we’re currently fighting alongside victims of sexual violence, I will force myself to watch it. And if I hear that word “ROBUST” from a senior officer one more time hoping to reassure when in fact it has precisely the opposite effect, I’m sure I’ll have to swing for them!! #police #Accountability #Independence #corrupt #truth theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2…

@MaggieOliverUK @Channel4 The cases followed in the first episode are truly awful and every single officer involved on the incidents should have been sacked without the oppurtunity to resign. However, it maybe that the current regulations and conditions of their service allow them to bypass that aspect

@MaggieOliverUK Maggie, what ever the conclusions the report contains is not one you should beat yourself up over. Although you weren’t asked to contribute to the inquiry in any meaningful way, your disclosures on behalf of the victims were absolutely paramount in its formulation. Well done!

As I said in my post on Friday, tomorrow is a watershed moment that has been a long, long time in coming. Yet again, I find myself in a place where I can’t sleep, where I wake up in the early hours with a million thoughts going round and round and round in my head. Questions, anger, searching for reasons, for answers, for things I may have done differently. But whichever way I turn, I honestly don’t know what more I could have done, and that’s the real truth. A personal journey for me that has spanned almost 20 years of my life, from the day I went back to work after my beloved husband had died in July 2005 to find out that Operation Augusta had been completely shut down. Dozens and dozens of children knowingly abandoned to their abuse in Manchester by @gmpolice , scores of paedophiles allowed to continue to walk the streets unchallenged and abuse god knows how many more children. Why you may ask? How can that be? Surely not? Well as @MayorofGM Andy Burnhams 2020 review officially found, because Senior Leaders @gmpolice made the policy decision in 2005 that they would not put resources into the investigation, and so they just closed it down and pretended it wasn’t happening. That is the stark, horrific and shocking truth. And having that finally, officially confirmed, brought me little comfort, although it was a very public vindication of what I had been saying publicly for many many years. What will tomorrow bring? For me I know I will have to manage a mix of so many emotions that I darent even contemplate them tbh. I’m frightened I will lose my way, won’t be able to verbalise what I want to say, although as always I will speak from my heart and how I feel in the moment. For the victims and survivors they feel all that I feel, and so much more. They have survived the most horrific abuse, their childhoods destroyed, the next 15 years of their lives stolen when they again became victims of a system which turned away, and made the journey and the trauma a million times worse than it ever should have been! I will reserve all my comments about the report and the detail of my thoughts until then, but I just wanted to post today to make everyone who has followed this journey aware, that the report will be published in the morning and that there will be a Press conference at 8.30am tomorrow which will be STREAMED LIVE. Where both the independant review team, The Chief Constable, and Andy Burnham will speak. If you want to listen to it/watch it, then please click on one of these links and you will be able to hear what the official findings are and what the 6 year review has found…… And of course I’ll be commenting too, on behalf of myself but more importantly for all those hundreds, if not thousands, of victims and survivors who have been silenced throughout many many years by the institutions who would prefer to pretend these betrayals hadn’t happened…… I will try to do them justice, and tell the truth as I have always tried to do. 🙏 @MayorofGM" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">youtube.com/@MayorofGM x.com/mayorofgm facebook.com/greatermcr/

Someone who could never show them how it was done is Hanson. A missing person throughout his GMP career, both operationally & in support of Fed membership. So poor at Tameside his shift led a revolt. Some top cop. No awareness! manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-m…

@NaughtyDrivers But why as a cyclist do you want to knowingly exceed the speed limit. If you are involved in a accident with a third party, everyone suffers through excessive speed.

@MaggieOliverUK Continuing to state the obvious adds nothing to this appalling situation. I’m sure the majority of searches should have been conducted with an appropriate adult present but quite possibly urgent action was required in some cases.

I find this extremely concerning and if this was MY child being strip searched without a parent or appropriate adult present, I would be raising the roof! How can this be right, and I see it as an abuse of power I’m afraid. news-sky-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/news.sky.c…

@thebierton @johnleechmcr @LukeSavageMCR I understand your viewpoint in some regards, however you already have both Debbie Hillal and Greg Stanton who also work and cover your general area. We need a independent candidate and John Leech’s work record stands testament to that.
