I just remembered sitting at my desk in March 2026, watching my timeline flood withd one word. "Depeg". Resolv's USR stablecoin had been sitting comfortably at $1, then within minutes it crashed to $0.20. People were posting their positions, some panicking, others just silent, which was somehow worse. An attacker got hold of a single privileged key, one account with unchecked minting power, and used it to print $80 million in unbacked USR out of thin air. They extracted roughly $23 million before anyone could stop them. Most people took away the usual lesson which is that DeFi is too dangerous and stablecoins can't be trusted. The lesson actually worth taking was quieter than that. Any yield mechanism that relies on a single point of failure is not a matter of if it breaks. It's a matter of when.
