It's been really weird to see all the japanese people that openly state preservation as a bad thing. Not like the "don't pirate it if its gone" cause there can be confusion there on the exact meaning.
But genuinely people saying the act of trying to preserve something is a moral failing that makes you a bad person. It's such a bizarre belief but I can believe it, especially when several JP gaming companies have had to rely on western preservation efforts in order to recover lost data.

@lightningbrn0 @DerGyros Outside of social media platforms, and only since recently, it was not something westerners would brag about. The vast majority of people do not engage in these.
English

@lightningbrn0 of course i cannot speak for everyone but i hope you understand that most people around the world dont pirate for malicous reasons.

@lightningbrn0 @DerGyros You can't live your life based around eventualities and you have no guarantee that WILL happen so why harm yourself by believing in something that isn't real?
English

@lightningbrn0 I think the main issue is that these official offline version only rarely exist, at least here in the west.
But i do agree that in the case you brought up piracy would be bad since there are potential sales to be lost.
English

@lightningbrn0 @Lol8ball The idea is that the creator doesn't lose anything when the service he no longer provides gets done by others.
You can only lose potential sales from pirates who could buy it instead but if the product isn't for sale anymore then there is no potential sale in the first place

@lightningbrn0 @MizutamariVT a lot of the time, asking the author doesnt really matter, at least in the west it doesnt, because here they often sell their rights away so even if they were okay with it, they have no say.
i dont really know how it is in japan, but i assume that the company has some say too
English

@lightningbrn0 I Appreciate reaching some agreement. It's been depressing seeing so much anger today. I hope you're doing well.
English

@lightningbrn0 @MizutamariVT Sega is very pro fan here. But even they will ask for takedowns, like a streets of rage remake(bare knuckle in Japan) because they had plans for the series.
Whereas maybe it's easier to get outright approval in your country, so you can petition directly .

@lightningbrn0 I think part of the issue is Americans have lost faith in both development studios and publishers. 10-15 years ago, there were several highly respected and trusted developers, like Blizzard and Bioware. We've watched all of them be hollowed out.
