@Pittsburgh This is a good thing. I've lived in the Pittsburgh area my entire life, and inside the city limits for 16 years. I never knew what the colors meant. Having a unified look, and freshly re-done signs (and re-done in a very economical way) will help give the city a uniform look.

Our new design uses the existing sign infrastructure & updates it with a simple unified civic design.

We’ve received many inquiries about the recently retired Wayfinder color code! Designed in 1995, the “code” divided Pittsburgh into five colorful sections. The signs in an area matched the corresponding color. They’ve grown faded & today the color code system is largely unknown.

@Matt_Dragon26 @foxes_in_love Ooohhh.... Maybe I can try using it on AstroTurf, and when it fails to work right, sue the manufacturer under the UCC for violating the fitness clause and the implied warranty of merchantability.

@lildobe @foxes_in_love Maybe they should have stated too that it is only intended to be used on a biological lawn? Not that somebody tries to use it on a plastic lawn.

@AdamWayne11 @Pittsburgh Unless today is Easter, no it's not. Transgender Day of Visibility is the same day every year - March 31st. Has been since it started in 2009. Since its inception, the two have coincided twice, in 2013 and 2024.

Reading and watching science fiction has (along with reading history) been the best preparation I've ever had for the modern world. Worldwide pandemic? No big surprise. A.I? Humanoid robots? Self-driving cars? Rockets landing on their tails? Etc. Etc. Etc. It's all been in the stories. Do you know where the word "grok" comes from? Ever seen Colossus: The Forbin Project? Reading/watching sci-fi provides context for the world we live in ... and prepares us for the world to come.

Today, Mayor O’Connor announced that @UPMC has gifted $10 million for the City fleet. This transformative donation will allow EMS to purchase 9 ambulances and 1 rescue truck this year and a similar number next year. This also allows the City to purchase 35 Public Works trucks.

@NWSPittsburgh When was the last time that any of the three rivers froze solid, with thick enough ice that it was reasonably safe to walk across them? My grandfather used to tell me stories about that happening.

Did you know that your local NWS office here in Pittsburgh not only has meteorologists on staff, but also a hydrologist? Just like the atmosphere, we keep a close eye on our rivers, and the upcoming long-duration freeze is something we are paying particularly close attention to.

@pgh_scanner Which is weird because it's still above freezing. But people ARE driving like jagoffs more than usual. I saw a jeep on 28 tailgating a sedan about 2 feet off their bumper, going 70 in a 45.

With the drive home rush starting, people are hitting slick spots all around the city and wrecking into objects and each other.

@pgh_scanner I feel like if I was still a 911 operator, which I haven't been since 2004, I would have said to the ICE agent something along the lines of "And? So? Therefore?" I'm glad that the zone supervisor had about the same response.

Supervisor said if they're on the sidewalk then they're allowed to be there. PD is not responding.

South Side. 3000 Sidney Street. ICE called in and said that an individual outside the compound is photographing the license plates of vehicles as they exit.

@mktoon It's sad how many old stories I've re-read recently that portray corrupt and/or evil governments, and see parallels with what is happening now. It's sad.

Just saw an initial pass of the illustrated edition of #Eldest. GORGEOUS! Few tweaks to go, and some pieces aren't final, but wow. It's especially cool because, although we've had illustrated editions of Eragon, this is the first time we've gotten Book 2. @schaturvedi

@paolini I, too, am in love with Montana, and I've never even been there. I must make it a point to visit one day.
