A Royal College of Nursing Commission on Nursing Education in 1985 stated that it was now to be considered necessary for the nursing course to be based in higher education establishments and to be of diploma and degree level

@lillianni @mettlesome_teri Nursing, the NHS, and Britain itself, were all very different 20 yrs ago! Nursing didn’t require a degree, huge chunks of NHS financing was not diverted to pay for ‘diversity managers’ and translators, it was not as over stretched, and the population of Britain was 10 mil fewer!

The likes of Nadhim Zahawi have voted for policies that see millions of kids going hungry, elderly people freezing to death, more foodbanks than McDonalds in the UK, nurses missing meals, and thousands living on the streets. We’ll take no lectures from him or his cronies.

@PatJD8 @mettlesome_teri You've obviously never been a nurse and have no idea the toll it takes on you physically and psychologically. I left the NHS 20 years ago because the salary did not reflect the work. Nights, weekends, bank Holidays, forget work/life balance. You don't even get respect.

@mettlesome_teri Nurses starting salary is £27,055 straight out of university at 21,with a guaranteed annual increment rise, nurses average salary is £34,125! It is unconscionable to be going on strike during an economic crisis when large parts of the country don’t earn anywhere near this amount!
