When floods, earthquakes and other climate disasters hit communities, #midwives are part of the first responder teams, supporting affected women to deliver their babies safely, and to ensure the sexual and reproductive health needs and rights of women and girls are upheld. This International Day of the Midwife, we pay tribute to the amazing midwives across #AsiaPacific for their lifesaving service while being on the frontline of climate impacts. As the High-Level Reception, "Celebrating the Impact of African First Ladies in Public Health," co-hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding #BCIU and the Organization of African First Ladies for Development @OAFLAD took place this past Friday during the 28th General Assembly of the OAFLAD, on the sidelines of the 37th African Union Summit, I expressed my deep honour to have been invited to share my goodwill message, as collective efforts will further accelerate progress towards achieving equitable and sustainable public health outcomes in Africa, aligned with the @UN #SDGs and @_AfricanUnion Africa Health Strategy.  Having originally visioned and missioned the Wellbeing Foundation Africa when I served as First Lady of Kwara State in North Central Nigeria myself two decades ago, I profoundly appreciate the transformative impact and visibly tangible effect that First Ladies can and do bring to enduring and evolutionary focused advocacy efforts and philanthropic endeavours. By selflessly lending and leveraging their platforms, they contribute significantly to the advancement of our shared humanity. Through a multidimensional approach, the @WellbeingAfrica remains honoured to support OAFLAD and BCIU collaborations, bringing together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds at the #AfricanUnion, to share insights, exchange best practices, and forge new alliances in the pursuit of shared goals - recognising the interconnectedness of various health issues, holding the promise of a healthier and more resilient future for all Africans.  The 28th OAFLAD General Assembly Meeting convened alongside the #37thAUSummit to enhance development and promote growth among member countries. Attendees included First Lady of Nigeria, H.E. Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and was chaired by OAFLAD VP, First Lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo, H.E. Mrs. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi. The assembly respectfully observed a minute of silence in memory of the late Namibian President, H.E. Hage Geingob, whose wife H.E. Monica Geingos, served as President of OAFLAD until his passing on February 4th, 2024. #AUSummit #OAFLADGA #WeAreEqual #MaternalMonday

Midwives, we need to hear from you! Have you ever been asked: “Are you really a midwife❓” If you’ve ever felt excluded from midwifery, please take a moment to answer the #MidwiferyMisfits survey. Your experiences can help make midwifery more inclusive. ow.ly/5Bey50Qw1pc

"If 95 per cent of women had a midwife, you would reduce maternal deaths by 85 per cent … you would reduce stillbirths by 85 per cent, you would reduce neonatal deaths by 85 per cent," said Professor Homer - 2023 Fenner Lecture. 🙏@CarolineHomer 👏🏽🎉💃🏻 rb.gy/mxhkoq
