@Victori49569624 Those “ties” remain very much in Canada’s interest, and you are doing your people a disservice by throwing away your relationship with the US. The US is much more than just one presidential administration.

Canada has made progress in fulfilling it's NATO commitment, but the US doesn't like our deeper ties with other countries or was it the infamous Davos Speech. The Karen List from the US on Canada is growing, I think our ties with the US are not in Canada's best interests. Donald Trump came home from China looking weak and pathetic — so naturally, he's lashing out at American allies. The Pentagon says it is "pausing" participation in the Permanent Joint Board on Defense — a joint U.S.-Canada body — citing Canada's failure to meet defense commitments. This is the same administration that has threatened to annex Canada and called it the 51st state. And now they're surprised Canada isn't rushing to buy American weapons or join Trump's Golden Dome. Every move like this pushes Canada closer to Europe and the rest of the world — and further from the United States.

@gazman69 @MeidasClips Ok loser. After the Alberta vote on the referendum this October, Quebec might do the same for different reasons. Then “Oh Canada” is going to be “Oh, shit Canada, what happened to you?”

This is profoundly misguided and quite strange coming right after the President’s visit to China. Canada has been and will be an ally that shares values of liberty. As a Canadian whose grandfather deployed to Alaska for joint defence in WWII, I hope we don’t lose sight of that.
Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby@USWPColby

A strong Canada that prioritizes hard power over rhetoric benefits us all. Unfortunately, Canada has failed to make credible progress on its defense commitments. DoW is pausing the Permanent Joint Board on Defense to reassess how this forum benefits shared North American defense. 1/3

As I fly out of another trip to Canada, this time Toronto, I just feel compelled to say how shocking it is that so many people have to recognize that Canada is likely already beyond repair on so many issues. They see the train running towards a cliff, and there are no brakes.

I'm not surprised, and I don't disagree. Don't get me wrong. That's not what I'm saying. I'm talking meta here. What I'm saying is that it's shocking that people are staring in the face of the downfall of their own country, and denial of the facts has left the building. It's not that it's unbelievable. It's insane that it's real. It's an insane thing to have to consider as a serious option. Many things we take for granted as being permanent, even terra firma, simply are not and cannot survive without being defended.

@FringedCanuck It’ll never happen. Most Canadians are pussies who willfully gave up their guns. They’ll be governed by a commie and like it.

@BraddrofliT @Krispi_Largo From a Canadian, I would say it will take a couple of terms. Even after that I suspect it will never go back to the way things were. A bulldozer blade fell on my foot when I was 21 years old it happened in a second, it mostly healed in 6 weeks I still feel it 40 years after.

Here’s the part no one is saying: The next president won’t get a real first term. They’ll inherit a repair job. Rebuilding alliances. Restoring credibility. Undoing damage. An entire presidency spent fixing what Trump broke.
