I’ll leave it here, but I find it astonishing that American colleagues I respect, in sports and beyond, are either celebrating or minimizing what should be obvious: overt political interference in a disciplinary decision at a World Cup is unethical, unacceptable and profoundly dangerous. Whatever one thinks of Balogun and the red card itself, the debate is now beyond it and precedent is indefensible. The integrity of the tournament depends on the idea that what happens on the field is judged by the rules of the game, not by pressure from political power. To celebrate this is...baffling.

Sorry American soccer fans, but after listening to this demented pile of orange shit openly brag about his FIFA corruption, I hope Belgium beats the living shit out of Team USA tonight. Trump has singlehandedly turned millions of us into Belgium fans. 🇧🇪

FIFA President Gianni Infantino: “I have seen the public comments regarding the decision of the independent FIFA Disciplinary Committee related to the suspension of Folarin Balogun, and I would like to reiterate a fundamental principle of FIFA’s governance. “FIFA’s judicial bodies are independent. They operate autonomously, apply the FIFA Disciplinary Code, and decide cases based on the applicable regulations and the specific facts before them. Their independence is essential to the credibility and integrity of football, and this must always be respected. “Yes, I regularly discuss matters related to the FIFA World Cup with the President of the United States, and on this matter, I did receive a call from President Donald Trump, just as I receive calls from heads of state, government officials, football stakeholders and business executives from around the world on many different issues. During our conversation, I explained that there was an ongoing legal process involving FIFA’s independent judicial bodies and that the case would be decided in due course by the competent bodies. That is how FIFA’s system works, and it is a principle that I will always uphold. “I read the decisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee when they are issued. Sometimes I am surprised by them. Sometimes I agree with them, and sometimes I disagree. “What I always do, however, is respect those decisions and the autonomy of the bodies that make them. Whether we personally like a decision or not is irrelevant. Respect for independent institutions and the rule of law is what protects the integrity of our competitions and the credibility of FIFA at all times.”

@piersmorgan The Balogun overturn is just. Lame that you see it as cheating. The overuse of VAR is a problem. It’s hurting the game. Felt the same about that ridiculous post play penalty given to Mexico for the Harry Kane foul.

Starting this summer, we’re increasing speed limits wherever it’s safe to do so on highways across Ontario, getting drivers where they need to go faster. By October, close to 90 per of Ontario’s highway network will be at 110 km/hr, reflecting the speed for which our highways were designed. Find out more: news.ontario.ca/en/backgrounde…

Okay, I can't let this one go. These OPSEU workers came to Ford Fest after being denied meeting after meeting. They care for our most vulnerable, and they're owed wages Ford took under Bill 124. His response? He literally erased them from the picture to make them look like supporters.

Imagine getting booed at your own party, then editing the photos so the protesters look like fans. Trumpian. It's the same thing every day: pretend everything's fine while people struggle to afford anything. This is a tired government, and it's time to get them out of the way.
