Let’s summarize where we are after a 40+ day Democrat shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. 1) ICE and CBP are funded, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts and the foresight of President Trump and Republicans in Congress. 2) After holding DHS and the American people hostage for over 40 days, Dems got ZERO restrictions that would prevent ICE and CBP agents from doing their jobs safely. 3) Due to Dem obstruction of the appropriations process, ICE and CBP will get even more funding through budget reconciliation. 4) Dems have once again established themselves as the “Open Borders, Defund the Police” party heading into an election. 5) Dem leadership has proven once again they can’t be trusted to make a deal. Which begs the question if you’re a Dem senator or one of their left-wing supporters: What was this really all about?

Absolute panic in Washington. Marco Rubio whines that Iran is planning to permanently control the Strait of Hormuz and charge a toll. He admits the US is powerless to stop it alone and begs the rest of the world to step in. Iran has completely outsmarted the American empire.

Iran’s nuclear infrastructure has become untouchable through military means, and any attempt to destroy it will fail and can only trigger a catastrophic war. According to military and nuclear experts, Iran has placed its most sensitive operations half a mile underground, protected by shock absorbers, labyrinthine tunnel systems, and hardened mountain ranges. Even the GBU-57 “bunker buster,” the West’s most powerful conventional bomb, would struggle to reach them, and only the US has both the bomb and the aircraft capable of deploying it. Israel has no access to these tools. Even then, these bombs can only penetrate 66 meters, while the most advanced nuclear bombs can only impact targets up to 500 meters underground. This might sound impressive, until you consider that Iran has placed its nuclear centrifuges on shock-absorber systems capable of withstanding 6.0 Richter scale earthquakes, buried 800 meters deep inside mountains. Iran has at least five such hardened nuclear sites. To destroy them all, the US would need to deploy 30 B-2 bombers, but it only has 18 in total. This means at least two of Iran’s deep facilities would survive even a full-force American air campaign. Moreover, Iran has not built straight shafts. After every 50 meters, tunnels veer hundreds of meters sideways before descending again. This makes pinpoint strikes nearly impossible. Even if the first bomb hits, the next eleven may hit decoy tunnels or empty space. So, what the f*** is Israel even doing? Well, Israel has managed to strike some smaller facilities, but it doesn’t have the capability to reach the fortified underground complexes described above. Its entire military architecture, aircraft range, payload capacity, and bomb types, is simply not designed for this level of subterranean warfare. Here’s the terrifying bit: If Israel accepts, and it seems it has, that it cannot reach Iran’s deep nuclear facilities, it might pivot to a strategy of “pressure through pain”, attacking civilian targets indirectly tied to nuclear development or Iranian stability. This could include: Power grids near enrichment sites, universities or technical institutes, oil refineries, gas pipelines, and critical economic infrastructur They are likely to go after urban centres, via cyberwarfare or standoff missiles, to induce social unrest in Iran. Assassinations of civilian scientists, a tactic Israel has used multiple times in the past and most recently. Such foul strategies would not be new. Israel has a long-documented history of targeting civilian infrastructure to exert political pressure. What it sadistically calls “mowing the grass.” It has used this approach in Lebanon, Syria and right now in Gaza. The logic behind it is clear: by degrading everyday civilian life, committing war crimes and genocide, they hope to destabilise the targeted regime. However, applying this to Iran would be a grave escalation. Not only will it force direct retaliation from Tehran, it would likely provoke a broader regional response from freedom fighters in Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen. More critically, Iran might respond by closing the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint through which 20% of the world’s oil supply passes. The economic impact would be global and immediate, risking recession, energy crises, and political upheaval far beyond that region. The takeaway is not difficult to see: Iran has out-engineered military intervention. The age of “surgical strikes” is over. Any hope of decapitating Iran’s nuclear production gramme without triggering global chaos now rests on diplomacy. But given Israel’s history of aggression and the West’s failure to uphold agreements, that diplomatic window was shut a while back.

(5/10) Now, we have to be able to hold multiple ideas in our heads at the same time. Once our armed forces are engaged in conflict we should all be pulling for their safety and success. Is it a good thing the Ayatollah who inflicted so much suffering on the Iranian people (and wrought so much violence around the world, including on Americans) is gone, Iran’s missile arsenal is diminished, and its nuclear program “re-obliterated” (since apparently it wasn’t “obliterated” in June)? Yes. But to what ends, at what cost, and for how long?

BREAKING: Trump is left reeling after the New York Times reveals that Iran’s attacks have bombed EVERY American military base in the Middle East so badly they are “virtually uninhabitable!” Thanks to the Trump administration’s criminal lack of preparation and shocking understimation of Iran’s military capabilities, the US military is now working remotely in the Middle East, putting civilians in danger as they work out of hotels and makeshift operations centers in civilian areas. “The result, according to current and former military officials, is a war that is much harder to prosecute.” The Times reports that “many of the 13 military bases in the region used by American troops are all but uninhabitable, with the ones in Kuwait, which is next door to Iran, suffering perhaps the most damage.” Iranian officials have even accused the U.S. military of using civilians as human shields by putting American troops in hotels. This is sure to prompt another furious tirade from Donald Trump who we now know is not getting the full picture of just how badly this war is going for him and is instead just getting a highlight reel of war porn, watching our tax dollars blow things up for two minutes every day. This is a perfect demonstration of the blind hubris of the Trump administration. After two decades of watching America uncontestedly bomb the poorest people in the world, Trump and Hegseth couldn’t even conceive of an enemy with a sophisticated military and able to fight back, despite all the evidence to the contrary. They took no preparations, expected no reprisals. They didn't evacuate anyone from the Middle East until AFTER the war had started. They didn't bother to prepare for drones. They attacked Iran because they are cowards and bullies, thinking that they could impose their will on Iran by simply killing one old man. They were very, very, wrong, and now they’ve started a fire they cannot put out with lies and bombs.
